Outdoor funerals and celebrations of life
A funeral service is an important event in every culture throughout history—to honor the deceased and begin the healing process with friends and family. Restrictions set forth by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health prohibit indoor funeral services. To better serve families during COVID-19 restrictions, we are offering options for open-air visitations and services throughout our memorial park. Each of these spaces can be tailored specifically to the individual being honored.
SkyRose Courtyard: Located on the expansive lawn adjacent to SkyRose Chapel, this open-air canopy is a serene location that affords the utmost privacy while services are being conducted. The area offers seating for 260 guests and restroom facilities inside SkyRose Chapel. This setting is also home to our annual Memorial Day Observance. Watch Video
Mission Hills: Overlooking our beautiful Sycamore Valley, this open-air canopy is located in front of one of our newest developments, Our Lady of Guadalupe Mausoleum. The area offers seating for 112 guests and includes portable restroom facilities. Dedicated in 2019, this mausoleum features a beautiful replica image of Our Lady of Guadalupe and an original foundation stone that was gifted to Rose Hills by the Basilica de Santa Maria de Guadalupe in Mexico City.
Memorial Terrace: Situated atop a rolling hillside, the open-air canopy north of Memorial Chapel offers breathtaking views of the San Gabriel Valley and tranquil sunsets for remembrance and reflection. The area offers seating for 72 guests and restroom facilities within the Chapel.
El Portal de la Paz: Located in front of El Portal de la Paz (Doorway to Peace) Mausoleum, this open-air canopy offers a majestic view of the Los Angeles area, the iconic Hollywood sign and Griffith Observatory. This peaceful area is the largest of our canopies and offers seating for 420 guests with restrooms located inside the mausoleum. Dedicated in 1930, El Portal de la Paz reflects the architecture of California’s early Spanish Mission era, complete with a courtyard garden and fountain.
The Gardens: Located east of Memorial Chapel, this open-air canopy is bordered by a field of trees and a nearby cascading waterfall. It offers a comforting area for 140 guests and portable restroom facilities.
Hillcrest Terrace: Situated at the summit where Rose Hills originally opened its gates, this unique location features an open-air canopy with majestic views of the San Gabriel Mountains. Nearby, the iconic Rose Hills sign serves as the backdrop for this venue. This scenic area offers seating for 228 guests with nearby portable restroom facilities.
