Encounter unparalleled beauty at Rose Hills Memorial Park

We honor legacies with everlasting tributes in an unmatched setting. From the high elevation and natural beauty of the cemetery property to the thoughtful architecture of the buildings and carefully considered landscaping, Rose Hills is a sight to behold. The property is home to Whittier Heights Mausoleum, the second public mausoleum in California; El Portal de la Paz (Gateway of Peace), the cemetery’s second mausoleum; three midcentury garden mausoleums: Court of Eternal Light, Terrace of Memories, Mausoleum of the Valley; and the newest mausoleum, Mission Hills Mausoleum.

Several sections of the cemetery are set aside to honor groups. The Masonic Memorial Lawn opened in 1951 as the first fraternal lawn at Rose Hills. Today, there are more than a dozen dedicated lawns for religious, ethnic and fraternal organizations, including more than 3 acres memorializing U.S. military veterans. The cemetery is also home to Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Columbarium, the largest Buddhist pagoda in the United States; lush Japanese gardens; and the private St. Nicholas Chapel built by the Greek Orthodox Memorial Foundation of Southern California.

Notable cemetery chapels

Rose Hills has four chapels that are each special in their own way, allowing families to host services of all sizes and styles.

The most notable of the four is SkyRose Chapel. Finished in 1997, it hosts more than 1,000 memorial services and numerous public events annually. Situated on a hilltop with a dramatic view of downtown Los Angeles, it has a soaring 90-foot cathedral ceiling and a custom Quimby pipe organ. Designed by architects Fay Jones and Maurice Jennings, the chapel is a universal space easily adapted for any culture and traditions.

Memorial Chapel is a beautifully designed, post-modern masterpiece on a hillside among lush gardens with views of the San Gabriel Valley. Built in 1964 as a memorial to the late John D. Gregg—son of Rose Hills founder Augustus Gregg—the chapel hosts memorial services, funerals and visitations for all cultures and faiths.

Hillside Chapel is a third jewel on the Rose Hills property. Designed by renowned architect AC Martin, the airy, beautifully lit space has perhaps the best acoustics Rose Hills offers. The chapel’s 22-foot windows provide a view that’s been described as a continuous California sunrise.

Rainbow Chapel was Rose Hills’ first dedicated chapel. Its California Mission architecture and modest size make it a perfect option for families who want an intimate service.

GardenView Reception Center

Flower shops and a famed rose garden

Rose Hills is known for helping each family plan every detail of a personal, meaningful tribute—and that includes flower arrangements. Professional floral arrangers at The Flower Shop at Rose Hills, located at Gate 1, create tributes for funerals and memorials, as well as holidays, birthdays and more. Order in person or online, and pick up or ask for delivery to a Rose Hills viewing or service, placement at a gravesite at Rose Hills Memorial Park, or delivery to any location off the property. A second flower shop near the entrance to Gate Ten has a limited selection of fresh flowers and refreshments as well.

Beyond flowers for purchase, Rose Hills is home to the award-winning Pageant of Roses Garden. The 3.5-acre garden showcases more than 600 varieties of roses. It hosts an international rose trial each year.

Complete funeral care from a single location

Rose Hills Mortuary opened in 1956. Each day since, we’ve worked to perfect our services. Having the mortuary and crematory on-site at the cemetery allows Rose Hills' families access to complete funeral care from a single location. With several custom staterooms, a witness crematorium and more than 700 team members who speak nearly two dozen languages, Rose Hills cares for families from all walks of life.

When we first meet a family, we do our best to pair them with a funeral arranger who speaks the same language. Coordinators work with the goal of finding associates who align emotionally with families so that they can anticipate their needs—and exceed their expectations. That level of detail, care and energy comes through in everything we do.

The Witness Crematorium

Some family traditions include witnessing the cremation of their loved one. The Witness Crematorium at Rose Hills reflects our commitment to honoring all customs and preferences. Its viewing lounge accommodates up to 10 people and may be used for a small service to complement a larger chapel or graveside gathering.

Hall of Endless Remembrance at Rose Hills Memorial Park & Mortuary in Whittier, CA

Visitation center and Hall of Endless Remembrance

The Rose Hills Mortuary comprises three floors, each with its own funeral chapel and multiple staterooms designed to serve the many cultures of Los Angeles. The first and second floors hold space for religious and nonreligious memorials; staterooms vary in size to provide an intimate setting for a small gathering or more space for a larger group. The rooms can be easily personalized for a traditional memorial or thoroughly transformed for a themed celebration of life. The third floor of the visitation center is home to the Hall of Endless Remembrance. Here we hold as many Buddhist ceremonies each year.

Dedicated exclusively to Chinese funerals, the Hall of Endless Remembrance has a staff of native Cantonese and Mandarin speakers who understand Chinese traditions and are experienced in providing compassionate memorial care. An on-site shop carries burial blankets, ceremonial paper items, special jewelry and keepsakes, and other accessories to ease the burden of preparing for a Chinese funeral. Each room along the Hall of Endless Remembrance is architecturally appropriate.

Hua Yuan at Rose Hills

New in the spring of 2019, the Hua Yuan Ceremonial Complex was created specifically with Chinese families in mind—though families of all cultural backgrounds are welcome to hold events in the space. At 14,000 square feet, it includes two modern chapels with catering kitchens, dining rooms, ceremonial burners and courtyards. An elegant reception area at the heart of Hua Yuan showcases the elements of water, sun and air. Designers incorporated symbolism inspired by the deity Guanyin into the decor. A boutique in the complex is a convenient place to purchase Chinese ceremonial funeral products.
