Robert Murray, Sr. “Bob” was born in Los Angeles California and grew up in Whittier at the home his parents bought in 1951. Bob attended school in Whittier and played football at Cal High where he graduated. He also went to college for a while but did not graduate.
After school Bob travelled to Florida, but soon returned to California and lived in Rowland Heights, Santa Cruz, Frasier Park, and Lake Forest before coming back to Whittier with his parents.
Bob worked a few different jobs during his life, but most enjoyed working as a computer technician, which he started doing at his late sister's company and later continued on his own until retirement. He also enjoyed playing Poker and would often play in tournaments at local casinos.
Bob was very much a talker, liked to debate, and often wrote opinion pieces for newspapers. He was pleased to announce, “I’m a published author” in both the Whittier Daily News and the Los Angeles Times. He enjoyed watching Blue Bloods, and his favorite movie was “An American President”.
Despite having his leg amputated in 2021 as a result of diabetes, he lived alone and remained independent. He was always good with tools and could “MacGyver” anything as necessary to make life easier for him.
Bob was hospitalized in January for various medical conditions. His son Robert Jr often stayed at the Whittier house to be close by, and he along with his wife Deirdre and longtime friends Ray and Laurie visited him often and spoiled him with pizza, In-N-Out, grapefruit juice, cookies and chocolate. Doctors thought he was stable and improving so he was discharged to a nursing facility for rehab on Saturday, February 15th, but passed away from a heart attack two days later, less than two weeks before his 80th birthday. His son and housekeeper had just visited him during the hour before he passed. Bob is survived by his son Robert Jr and daughter-in-law Deirdre.
