Robert Dennis MacLagan

Robert graduated from Pacific High School in San Bernardino, California, in 1966. He received a Bachelor of Art’s Degree in Political Science at the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1970. He attended law school at the University of San Francisco, graduating in 1973 with a Juris Doctor degree. He worked in the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office from 1974 to 1980 as a trial attorney, before going into private practice with law partner Michael Drucker. In 1990 he was appointed a substitute judge with the Los Angeles Superior Court, presiding over juvenile delinquency and dependency cases.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister Nancy Compton (George), and her two daughters, Jeannie DeLateur (Robert) and Julie Thiry (Nathan), and their combined eight children.

Robert was a devoted godfather to several godchildren, including Eddie Turner, Erica Vance, Erin Rosa, Vanessa Frausto, and Vivian Frausto, tutoring them, encouraging them, and enriching their lives. He loved them dearly.

After Bob’s retirement, he took great pleasure in researching and writing family histories for his own Mac Lagan family and for many others as well, spending hundreds of hours. They are monuments to his research ability, determination, and perseverance.

Robert suffered several medical problems during his last several years, including diabetes and kidney failure, and died peacefully at the home of his sister on hospice care.

A memorial service was held in Spokane, Washington, on March 22, 2026, and a graveside memorial service was held at Rose Hills Memorial Park on June 26, 2027.
