Bob was a beloved brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, neighbor and friend. He was born in Manchester, New Hampshire, the fifth of eleven children born to Edmond J. Caron, Sr. and Pearl (Lariviere) Caron. He was baptized on January 30, 1938 at Saint Antoine Church in Manchester. His early school years were spent at Bakersville School and then completed grammar school at Blessed Sacrament School.
Bob learned hard work at an early age where he worked on neighbors’ farms and shoveled driveways for extra money for his household. He later worked for a large ladies’ shoe manufacturing company in Manchester.
Bob began his military service at the age of 17 when he joined the NH Army National Guard. He then enlisted in the US Navy where he honorably served his country from 1955-1959 as Seaman 1st Class/Signal Quartermaster out of Norfolk, VA shipyard on the USS O'Hare, a heavy naval cruiser. He then continued his service in the Naval Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1962.
Bob met Fran (Virgilio), his wife of 54 years, when they worked together at Blue Chip Stamps where Bob was the Warehouse Operations/Shipping Manager. They married on October 30, 1965. He attended night school to complete his high school diploma which he received in 1966. He also attended night school at Rio Hondo College in Whittier where he earned his AA degree while working a full time job, part time job and taking care of a family.
Bob & Fran settled down in Hacienda Heights, California where they raised two daughters together, Dawn & Sheri. They loved the outdoors, and as a young married couple before the kids were born, they would often go waterskiing, boating and fishing off of Catalina Island, taking along Bob’s beloved boat. Almost all family vacations were spent camping, with many trips to Yosemite and Sequoia.
Bob was confirmed into the Lutheran church in 1971. A man of deep faith and prayer, he was a fixture at Holy Trinity and served his church in many capacities as an active and dedicated pillar of his congregation.
He owned and operated a landscaping and gardening business, his “part time” job on Saturdays, which he took over from his father-in-law. He was beloved by his customers and when you saw his old blue truck rattling around Hacienda Heights and Whittier, there was no mistaking who it was. Bob retired from Blue Chip Stamps in 2011, but kept the gardening business well into his late 70s.
When Bob & Fran’s health started to decline, it was mutually decided to move them to Brookdale Walnut, a senior living & memory care community. Bob was adored and lovingly cared for by the staff who told the family he was the heart of their memory care. Angels on earth truly served him.
Bob was very kind, loyal and generous with his time and energy. He was brutally honest, funny, a jokester with an amazing smile and infectious laugh. He was a hardworking man, strong as an ox, independent, faithful, reliable, respectful, loving and always helpful. He never met a stranger. Bob was always working on something, even when he wasn’t on the clock. He saw something that needed to be done, and he did it. He adored being outside, whether he was puttering around in his own yard, or mowing his neighbors’ yards (often without being asked).
Bob never took a day for himself. May he finally rest in peace in the arms of Jesus. Well done, thy good and faithful servant.
Bob is survived by his daughters Dawn Caron and Sheri Caron Huggett Tingesdahl; son-in-law, David Tingesdahl; two grandchildren, Joshua and Hailey; brothers Leonard Caron and Ralph Caron; sisters Phyllis Fredette, Virginia Blank and Linda Caron; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Fran; his brothers Edmond Caron Jr., Eugene Caron, Edward Caron Sr., and Richard Caron; and sister, Lena Caron Green.
Those who wish to remember Bob in a special way may make a contribution in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association https://act.alz.org.
Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life. Revelation 2:10
