

El Monte, CA Raul “Roy” Palacios, 84, passed away peacefully the morning of September 25, 2011 surrounded by family. Raul was born in Navasota, TX on November 28, 1926. He was deeply loved by family and friends sharing a wonderful sense of humor, a love of science fiction, a passion for tax law, and a beautiful singing voice. He served his country honorably during WWII as a US Marine Corporal and attended the University of Houston under the GI Bill. While there, he worked part time as a University radio DJ and met his future wife. They moved to California and lived in El Monte for 54 years raising three children. Raul retired from the Los Angeles City Civil Service Street Maintenance Division after 26 years. Raul loved to sing, play the guitar, and laugh at the local Senior Centers. He was an active parishioner of Nativity Catholic Church in El Monte. He was the neighborhood “grandpa”, always ready with a smile, joke and helping hand.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Lupe Palacios, his children, Daniel Palacios (Patricia) of San Bernardino, CA, Diana Palacios Hilton of Duarte, CA, Leonard Palacios (Deborah Quan) of La Puente, CA, two sisters Adele Direda-Savic of Thousand Oaks, CA and Mary Alice Mendez of New Braunfels, TX, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rafael and Conception Rosas Palacios, his siblings, Rodolfo Palacios, Richard Palacios, Dora Rosas Patino and his son-in-law Walter A. Hilton.
A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held October 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Memorial Chapel, Gate 1, 3888 S. Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, CA 90601. Inurnment and reception following.
