Patricia was born in Los Angeles and spent most of her growing up years in Whittier, where she lived with her father, mother and brother. She graduated from Whittier High School and attended both USC and UCLA, earning her bachelor's degree from UCLA and later a master's in Spanish. Patricia had an adventurous spirit and traveled to Europe as a young adult, where she lived and worked for some years before returning home. She began her teaching career in physical education, but after receiving her master's in Spanish, she started teaching Spanish and also working as a court interpreter. For many years she worked tirelessly in both professions, where, as attested by thank you notes found among her possessions, she made a difference in many lives. Patricia had a keen wit and sense of humor and enjoyed engaging conversation. When she was young and able, she loved being out in the natural world and participating in vigorous sports, such as skiing.
She was a loyal daughter and friend and will be missed by those who knew her well. Patricia is survived by close friends from her work and neighborhood, by her East Whittier Presbyterian Church family, and by her nephew Bryce Patterson.
A memorial service will be held at East Whittier Presbyterian Church, 14061 2nd St, Whittier, at 11:00 am on Friday, September 23rd. A light lunch will follow in the church social hall. Donations to hospice at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital Whittier or the East Whittier Presbyterian Church Deacons' fund would be welcome in lieu of flowers.
