Mike G Chavez

Mike was born on September 7, 1924, in Flagstaff, Arizona to Martin and Francisca (Garcia Gonzalez) Chavez, the second of 9 children. His life was marked by courage, love, and dedication. At the age of 19, Mike answered the call of duty, joining the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. As a gunner in a B-17, he bravely completed 34 bombing missions over Europe, surviving as one of only three crew members out of ten. His valor did not go unnoticed, and at the age of 79, with the assistance of Deputy Allen Castellano, he was finally recognized for his heroic efforts, receiving several medals for his service.

After the war, Mike built a fulfilling career as a furniture factory worker and cabinet maker, showcasing his craftsmanship and dedication. In 1947, he married Gloria Arambula, and together they raised a family. Though their marriage ended in 1985, their bond as parents to Dennis, Diane, and Danny remained strong.

In 1989, Mike met Aurelia, and they shared an enduring companionship. Together, they lovingly helped raise Brenda, Aurelia’s granddaughter, forming a supportive partnership that lasted until Mike’s passing.

Mike had a deep love for sports and enjoyed coaching his boys in baseball. He found immense joy in watching his grandchildren play sports and was always their biggest supporter, cheering them on from the sidelines with unwavering enthusiasm.

Mike's life was enriched by his grandchildren—Dennis Jr., Arthur, Kley, Kyle, and Brenda—and his great-grandchildren, Shane and Delilah. His family was the center of his world, and he took immense pride in their achievements and joys.

Mike's legacy of bravery, skill, and familial love will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will be cherished by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who continue to carry forward his spirit of resilience and kindness.

In honoring Mike's life, we celebrate not only his remarkable journey but also the enduring love he instilled in all who knew him. May he rest in peace, forever remembered and forever loved.

A visitation for Mike will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Rose Hills Mortuary, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601. A funeral service will occur Monday, August 12, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Rose Hills Memorial Park - Memorial Chapel, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601.

Mike will be laid to rest in Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601; Garden of Benevolence; Gate: 1, Section: 19, Lot: 1475, Grave: 2.
