Maria De Los Angeles Romero was born in Glendale, Arizona on February 5, 1928. Her father, Angel, and mother, Anita Maria, already had their first daughter, Carmela. And later, Dolores was born. They moved back to Torreon, Mexico in 1930. Angel decided to move his family back to the U. S. In 1944. They settled in Los Angeles, the city of Angels.
Maria worked as a beautician as a teenager in Mexico. And later became a seamstress with Sealy Mattress. Eventually, becoming a beautician again. And even having her young daughter, Pat as her assistant.
She met the love of her life, Roman Chapa, at a dance she attended with her sister Dolores and husband Trini. They married on August 22, 1954. Continuing to live in Los Angeles. Their first child, Patricia, was born in 1955. Two years later, Roman Jr. was born. Javier and Toribio completing their family.
In July of 1971 they moved to Pico Rivera. Where they continued to live thru the remainder of their lives.
In this home, she loved to entertain. Her welcoming words to all "mi casa es tu casa". She enjoyed having friends and family over. For BBQs, pool parties, birthdays, holidays and even weddings. And of course, Tamale making. Which went from a Christmas Eve ritual, to a 3-day tamale making party with her family. Those memories will be treasured by all!
As her grandchildren grew-up, she found herself devoting more time to her church, St. Francis Xavier. She loved being part of the Guadalupanas and giving back to the Church. Her involvement in the church led to her meeting President Fox of Mexico.
On January 17, 2009 she suffered a massive stroke that left her paralyzed and speechless. But her love for her family continued to radiate from her.
She is the last of the Romero family. Her parents are gone now, as well as her beloved sisters, Carmela and Dolores. She is now joined again with her viejo, Roman. Her legacy will continue thru her children. And all her grandchildren: Frank Jr., Alicia, Roman III, Deyja, Rayce, Raymond, Destin and Natalie. And her precious great-grandson, Stevie.
She was loved and adored by her family. She will stay in our hearts forever.
