

Larry Costa, 84, passed away at home of natural causes on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Larry’s passions were all centered around his family and friends. He was loved by all as a wonderful son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Larry’s family rejoices knowing that he has been welcomed into the kingdom of Heaven.
Larry was born in Los Angeles, CA on June 11, 1939 as the second eldest son of Theodore and Carmen Costa. He attended and graduated from Lynwood High School, Compton College, and California State University Los Angeles. Larry served in the Air Force Reserves. Larry was a retired employee of Rockwell, and taught at Rio Hondo College. He also taught 3rd and 6th grades for over 20 years in the Bellflower Unified School District.
Larry loved spending time with his large family throughout southern California and in Idaho. He enjoyed traveling; recent memorable trips included journeys to the Coeur d’Alene region of Idaho, Disney World in 2019, his “50th State” trip to South Dakota in 2022 (Larry proudly traveled to all 50 U.S. states), and Oahu, Hawaii in 2023. For years, Larry volunteered his time with Orange County Song and Dance, located in Huntington Beach. Most recently, Larry enjoyed daily quality time with his beloved brother, David Drew. Larry joked that “he [David] likes to cook, and I like to eat.” The brothers died within two weeks of one another.
Larry was proudly known as “Uncle Larry”, “Uncle Cuz”, and “Larry Larry” to many family and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his father Theodore; mother Carmen; Uncle Tony and Aunt Margaret Lagna; Sister Elma and husband Don Barry, eldest brother Dale Costa, and youngest brother David Drew.
Larry is survived by sister-in-law Patti Costa; the Remington family of Idaho and Montana cousins; nephews David Drew Jr., Jeff Drew, and families; niece Robin Hinderliter, her husband Kurtis, and daughters Lily and Abigail; nephew Rusty Shepard and daughter Grace; nephew Reno Barry, his wife Jean, son Simeon, and daughters Anna and Elizabeth; and nephew Danny Costa, his wife Kassie, and sons Jack and Aiden.
Viewing will be held at the Visitation Center of Rose Hills Memorial Park on Thursday, March 28 from 5-9PM. Memorial service will be held at the Memorial Chapel of Rose Hills Memorial Park on Friday, March 29 at 11AM, followed by graveside interment. Hawaiian-themed prints and shirts are recommended.
Larry will be buried alongside his brother, David Drew.
Larry will be laid to rest in Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601; Garden of Tranquillity; Gate: 1, Section: 3, Lot: 413, Grave: 1.
