

Jorge was born April 3, 1931, in Puerta de Tierra, San Juan, Puerto Rico to the parents of Pedro Maria Gómez and Ana Maria Arroyo. He was known by everyone in town as “Georgie” and considered an avid athlete and someone who stood up for rightfulness. He graduated from Central High School in Santurce, Puerto Rico and served as an altar boy at Saint Augustin Church.
Jorge was a United States Marine Corps (USMC) Veteran and received various medals for his service in Korea. As a “Marine”, on forward, he lived by the USMC motto “Semper Fidelis” – always faithful. He continued his military connection as a member of the American Legion and by making generous contributions to veteran’s organizations, including the Disabled American Veterans.
In 1954, he moved to California with his wife, Maria, where he established a new life as a devoted husband and father to his three children. Jorge had a notable career with the United States Postal Service at the Terminal Annex in Los Angeles that lasted over 30 years. Jorge loved spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed engaging in his favorite activities including traveling, dancing, listening to music, learning guitar, using his computer, reciting stories, watching sports, telling jokes and dining out at his favorite spots.
Jorge had a great sense of pride and integrity that he wove into every aspect of his life. His bravery, charisma, humor, attention to detail and caring ways effortlessly touched the lives of others. He was an inspiring person who generously offered encouragement, mentoring and words of wisdom to the people who surrounded him. He lived life to the fullest and found enjoyment in grand celebrations as well as in the simplest of times.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Gómez, son Jorge L. Gómez, Jr., daughters Debra Martinez and Gina Galvan, daughter-in-law Evelyn Gómez, grandchildren Roxanne, Nicole, Starr, Alyssa, Jasmin, Mireya, Jade, Justin and great-grandchildren Kevin, Ryan, Aiden, Isabelle, Maximo, Matthew, Diego and Natalia.
