Johnny Mitchell

Later on he moved to Bakersfield California where he spent some of his younger years with his parents, siblings, and some other family members. The family then resided in the city of Los Angeles, where he was baptized and received Christ as his Lord and Saviour. Johnny continued his early education and graduated from Jefferson High School.

Johnny married in his lifetime more than once, but all preceded him in death. He enlisted in the Army where he served his country in the Korean War. He also worked at U.S. Rubber Plant, followed by working that General Hospital where he retired from after 23 years. While working at General Hospital, Johnny and Sarah, his partner in life, opened up the Lockheart Family Home for adult down syndrome clients.

Johnny bowled over 40 years on bowling teams and in tournaments all across the states. he also loved going to Vegas to play poker and blackjack.

On December 17, 2023, Johnny was called to rest. Remaining to cherish his memories are his children: Kenneth Mitchell, Yolanda Mitchell, Johnny Mitchell (Jr.), Ramon (Ray) Taylor and Sheryll McDowell; his siblings: Rosie Drake, Willa Mae Black, Kathryn Taylor, Carolyn Buster, who all preceded him in death except one sister, June Anderson, who is the youngest out of the six; his grandchildren: Evan Lee, Ashley Lee, Kary Mitchell, Janae Mitchell, Leah Mitchell, Kristopher Mitchell and Sharne Henry; his great-grandchildren: Aniyah Smith and Kiera (Rebel) Lee. A devoted loving caregiver for 17 years, cousin Patrice (Candy) Peoples, and a host of family and friends.

"Sorry I had to leave in such a hurry, but I'm resting now, so please don't worry. I didn't have time to say good-bye. Try to understand and please don't cry. Remember I love you. Remember I care. I'll always be with you. Tho' you won't see me there. So carry on as you have before. Until we meet on Heaven's beautiful shore.

A visitation for Johnny will be held Friday, January 12, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Rose Hills Mortuary, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601. A funeral service will occur Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Rose Hills Memorial Park - Memorial Chapel, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601.

Johnny will be laid to rest in Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601; Vista Del Lago; Gate: 1, Section: 1, Lot: 604, Grave: 3.
