My Dear 二叔,
Where do I start,
To speak of a life
That brought so much love

You found joy in simple things—
good food, good company,
A table full of laughter,
where a happy moment never ends.

You loved to see people smile,
brought us joy,
when our hearts were broken.

You were the strongest person
I have ever known,
Yet your strength was never measured
by how much you could have shown.

Whenever I saw you,
my heart felt so light.
Just being around you
Made everything feel right.

I never imagined
our time together would end.

My heart feels bitter when you are not here,
I wish I could have a thousand more meals with you,
another chance to see you smile.

Though you have left this world too soon,
your love will never leave.
You live within our memories,
within all the hearts that grieve.

I hope you're somewhere peaceful,
somewhere beautiful and shining,
Surrounded by the love you gave us,
free from pain and full of light.

Thank you, 二叔,
for every moment, every day,
For being there, for being strong,
For bringing us warmth.

You may no longer walk beside us,
but you'll never truly go.
Because the love you left behind
is something we will always know.

Until we meet again,
my uncle, my family, my friend—
May you rest in peace and happiness,
where joy will never end.

Wherever you are,
I hope you know this too:

whenever you were around.

二舅父,

It is unbearable to have come to this devastating moment, a moment no one wants to face. I came to spend time with you, never thinking that this would happen so fast. I still find it hard to believe that this day has actually arrived.

I still remember being a kid and looking at a photo my grandmother had of her children, Uncle Tommy, Uncle Jimmy, and Aunt Irene  standing in the main hall of a business building. I remember feeling so proud, even though I didn’t fully understand why.

Years later, when we immigrated to the States, I finally met my uncles and aunt. I lived with Uncle Jimmy and Aunt Irene, and Jimmy and I even shared the same room. I remember you teasing with me, asking before we went to bed, “Do you miss your friends in Vietnam?” I would say, “Yeah, so much.”

But I never knew that one day, I would miss you even more.

You were not only my uncle, but also my colleague, mentor, and friend.

From Alhambra to Walnut, I remember how eager we were to jump into the pool, experiencing something new together. At the time, they were just ordinary moments. I never realized how precious they would become.

Those memories were lost, never meant to  resurface. But during these difficult and mourning days, I find myself remembering them once again.

It reminds me that memories are something we should never take for granted. We should hold onto them and cherish them, because one day, those unexpected moments may just be the memories we value the most.

I wish I could've had more time with you. I really wanted to show you around in my area. I wanted more conversations,  explore street foods, and simply more time and laugh together.

I will always be grateful that I had a compassionate uncle like you. I will miss you more than words can say, two thousand words would never be enough to express how much you meant to me and I will carry those memories we shared.

Rest in peace, Uncle Jimmy.

You will always be missed, remembered, and you will remain in my heart.

好多謝您一直在我們身邊陪伴，關照，教導我們。  現在，您功成身退啦。  好捨唔得您！  您知道的。  沒有您的日子好唔惯，您都知道的。  好無可奈何,不過無論如何，請您放下牽掛，安心往另一個旅程去。  不再有病痛啦。  您不用担心我們了，我應承您我會好好照顧我們自已的。  言盡于此，一切心照。  永遠爱您
