Hector was born on October 10, 1946 in Leon, Guanajuato Mexico. He spent part of his youth living in Leon, Guanajuato with his great-grandmother, Carmen Hernandez, & brother, Guillermo Díaz. In 1958, at the young age of 12 he immigrated to Los Angeles, California to join his mother, Elodia Becerra and step-father, Enrique Becerra. He resided in Echo Park, Los Angeles with his parents, brother and younger sisters, Elvira & Cecilia during his teen years.
He attended Virgil Middle School, Belmont High School in Los Angeles, CA and was drafted into the US Marines upon graduating to serve during the Vietnam War.
He had 2 children, Hector Jr. & Trisha, from his first marriage. He later met the love of his life, Cristina, while working at Felix Chevrolet. The lovebirds dated for 3 years before getting married in 1976. They had 2 children, Corissa & Christopher, and settled into their home in West Covina, California and later moved to Chino Hills, California where Hector resided for 28 years.
Hector worked for 32+ years in the automotive industry and ventured off a bit into entrepreneurship. He took tremendous pride in his work and was awarded multiple recognitions for his outstanding work & service over the course of his career. He retired in 2008 from his position as Service Director at Camino Real Chevrolet.
Hector was often the sharpest dressed in the room; living by his motto that it is always better to be overdressed than underdressed. He was loved and respected by everyone he encountered for his classy and straight-forward ways; known for never pulling any punches and always telling it how it is. Hector was a proud, loving & giving family man, and a father-figure to many. He was a provider & protector, and was always willing to take chances to move his family forward. His favorite pastimes were family-time, vacations, Dodger games, craft beer festivals in Mexico, and spending time with his grandchildren. The life of the party in his younger years, and a man of few, but impactful, words in his older years.
His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his wife: Cristina Hernandez; children: Hector, Trisha, Corissa and Christopher; 4 granddaughters: Ashley, Marina, Julissa, and Zada; daughter-in-law: Stephanie; son-in-law: Gabriel; sisters: Elvira and Cecilia; devoted family members, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
