Gustavo Penilla

Gustavo Roman Penilla, age 54, of Long Beach, California passed away on Monday, September 5, 2022. Gustavo was born April 22, 1968 in California. He is survived by his parents, Ramon and Magdalena Penilla, by his sisters, Lupita Martinez and Laura Curiel, and by his brothers, Ramon Penilla and Carlos Penilla. The family is devastated by the sudden loss of Gustavo, their youngest, the ever-smiling, broad-shouldered “baby” of the family.

Beyond his immediate family, Gustavo’s loss is also very deeply felt by his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues. He was godfather to Robert Andrew Martinez and Robert Curiel, Jr., and he was a constant presence at almost every family celebration. He was also godfather to the five Sears children, Aria, Tyler, Jackson, Carter and Kiki and a part of their family. Gustavo was also a beloved friend and fellow athlete to so many in his Long Beach swim family. Gustavo was also a friend and mentor to many colleagues at Post Consumer Brands/Malt-O-Meal where he had worked for over 18 years.

Gustavo was such an incredible human being. Known for his constant smile, his positivity, his generosity and his dependability, he is so missed by all who were blessed to have known him. He is profoundly missed and he is forever loved.

A visitation in chapel for Gustavo will be held Friday, September 30, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Rose Hills Memorial Park - SkyRose Chapel, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601.

A rosary service will occur Friday, September 30, 2022 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, at Rose Hills Memorial Park - SkyRose Chapel, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601.

A funeral service will occur Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Rose Hills Memorial Park - Memorial Chapel, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601.

Gustavo will be laid to rest in Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601; Heavenly Valley 2; Gate: 1, Section: 1, Lot: 1516, Grave: 4.
