

Gary was born November 29, 1951, in Clarksville, Texas to Griffin and Eva Draper. In 1958, Gary moved to Whittier, California with his family. He graduated from Monte Vista High School in 1969 then enlisted in the US Army. Gary served in the Army from December 1969 to 1972 before joining the US AR Unit until 1975. In the Army he was stationed in Vietnam with the 509th and 584th Engineer Company.
Gary met his wife shortly after coming home from the service. They married in 1975 and enjoyed 41 years of marriage raising children, traveling, and just spending time together. He became employed with Orchard Dale Water District as a serviceman, went to school to get his water certificates, and eventually became the General Manager. He retired after 34 years with Orchard Dale.
Gary had two sons whom he was very involved with. He loved them very much and was a part of everything they did from coaching them in baseball, cub scouts, school functions, restoring classic cars, camping, or helping with whatever they needed. Gary became an awesome Grandpa and enjoyed every second he could with them.
Gary was very involved in the community with Whittier Pony Baseball, Cal Hi Booster Club and Baseball team, CSULA Baseball Team, Whittier Police Volunteer Program, and the Parking team and Car Shows at Whittier Area Community Church.
Gary is survived by his wife, Sue; his children Jeff (Kim) and John (Caitlin) Draper; Seven Grandchildren; Sister, Vickie (Scott) Thomson; Brother-in-Laws, Scott, Randy, and Lee Summers; Cousin Jerry (Katie) Holldber; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
