My heart aches without you. I cherish the visits from you in my dreams. I miss you so much, oh what I would give to have another moment with you. Life is not the same without you.

Thank you to my son Roy for bringing Efrain into our lives, such a humble young man with a big heart and great sense of humor.

Please read the first part below, this is the continued part:

I remember when I was told, I was in so much shock. Part of me still hopes that he’ll just walk out and it’s been some horrible joke. I’d hug him so tight and tell him that I love him so much.

I wanted to know everything. Why he was leaving the house, why he crashed into the tree, why his car caught on fire. But above all, I want to know why him. Although I don’t think I’ll ever understand. People like to say it’s been an “untimely death”, but death is never timely. When death hits, it hits hard. Just overwhelms you. Hope and happiness Is the complete opposite. Just a small little spark can take over. People think being strong means to be tough and hold in the tears. But that’s now what strength is. Strength is allowing yourself to cry and feel your emotions. Moving forward, but not moving on. You can’t ignore death. You have to accept it, cry, be angry. You have to be strong.

Effie taught me some lessons. He taught me how to say bad words and deny it, but more importantly he taught me to live life to the fullest. He made time for everyone and I want to be like that. It’s not right to say he is gone, because he’s still in a piece of all of our hearts. A big piece. I want to remember the best way I know how, and cherish the memories I have with him.

Hi, I’m Sophia. Today we’re here to celebrate the life of such a wonderful person.  He was my Nino and I loved him so much. Whether we lost a brother, a son, or a Nino, we lost someone we loved. Someone who could make us laugh, someone who was there for us.

I can picture his face so clearly. I can see his smile in my mind. I can remember the time he farted at Yogurtland really loudly and blamed Marlena. One time, he showed up to my house with my Abuela. It wasn’t planned but my mom, Tatiana, and my Abuela were all wearing a black sweater and black sweatpants. He took us to Home Goods and at the checkout, he told the employee that they just got back from camping. He was such a lively person, which is why it’s so hard for me to accept that he is gone.

He was the best at making people happy. Quarantine was really hard for me. On this one day I was really sad. Then he called me, like he’d known. Just to tell me that he loved me and we were  just talking about all the memories we had together.  He made me laugh when it seemed like I was incapable of ever laughing again. And just when I thought I could never move my mouth anywhere but a straight line, he made me smile.

I don’t think I’ll ever get used to saying “was” instead of “is”. I just hope he know I loved him so much. I just hope he knows I cared. And I’ll never stop caring. I’ll never stop loving him.

To be continued

The only thing that ever defined him was his heart, humor, and humility. I will forever cherish each moment spent, our unforgettable laughs together. I’m a true believer that people cross our paths for a reason. Efraín definitely impacted me in such a way that he leaves an enormous hole In my heart. Effie cheered me up when he new I had a rough day at work.
He reminded me to live in the moment, to simply enjoy everyone I was surrounded by. Followed by a …
“ sincerely, Efraín Hernandez Jr. “
Rest easy king! You will never be forgotten.

May God continue to keep his family safe under His wing as you all begin to navigate this new existence. My sincere condolences and prayers are with the family and loved ones.

Effie, one of the best friends/persons I knew. Even though we became friend later in life, our 13yr friendship was full of so many great moment. I’ve been so blessed to have Effie in my life; we shared so may laughs, heartaches, achievements and memories throughout all the seasons of our lives. Effie, you always knew how to cheer me up during those hard times and I will be forever grateful, the light within you has always been so special and bright.

I will miss celebrating your birthday, our random text, enjoying a drink, listening to music and conversating about life. Your memory will always be with me.

This isn't a Goodbye but a "I'll see you later!"

To the Hernandez Family:
Mi mas sentido pesame. Con todo el dolor en mi Corazon yo sigo horando por ustedes. Que Dios los siga fortaleciendo en este tiempo tan dificil.

“Así que no temas, porque yo estoy contigo; no te angusties, porque yo soy tu Dios. Te fortaleceré y te ayudaré; te sostendré con mi diestra victoriosa.” Isaias 41:10

I remember how when I first met him I couldn't pronounce his name right ,I had just gotten to know him and the time I spent with him I will forever cherish,he used to tell me and my brother his crazy childhood story's and we would just sit and listen and he always made us laugh, our beloved Efrain we love you and miss you .

Efrain is my brother , and my padrino for confirmation. I've known him my whole life. He has always been there at my side as a protector. Words can't describe what he ment to me. I have so many stories to share about him. But there is one that stands out.. I remember riding my generic mountain bike and effie riding his G.T. DYNO. Some how I managed to dent my front tire. He then tells me "memin take my bike and I'll take yours" that was Efrain always looking out for others.. I love you nino!

Known as my uncle Efrain (efee) he was loving and the sweetest I've ever met i know he was loved by many people including me .we are going to miss you love .izzy

So many great memories, it is impossible to chose one. Effie was my brother-in-law, compadre and great friend. The thing I loved most about Effie was how thoughtful he was with my girls. He made them feel truly special and knew excatly how to make them laugh. He always brought them treats, he did that with all kids. It was also amazing to see him with my wife Susan (His sister). They could make each other pee of laughter and talk for hours. He included me in his circle and that made me feel special. Not a day goes by that I don't think about him, he had and continues to have a huge impact in my life . He will forever live in our memories and in our hearts. I thank God for being able to spend so many great times with him.

We Love You Brother.

My deepest condolences to the Hernandez family at this difficult time . Effie will be truly missed by many . I’m glad I had the privilege to meet him and spend many Great times with him. Effie your positive energy , beautiful smile and jokes I will miss Thank you for trusting me to decorate your home and cleaning it . I will miss you photo bombing my pictures and say ““What were you thinking”.

He definitely was king at lunch. People would walk all the way around the quad to avoid walking past Effie. It was like a catwalk comedy. One time, a group of guys (undeclared, gangless cholos. I suppose) were walking up a tad too tough and wearing oversized pants and checkered shirts, throwing dirt looks and side-eye from a distance. But they were no match for Effie’s witt. He screamed at the top of his lungs! “WATCH OUT! IT’S THE F******EN SWAPMEET GANG!!” In an instant, a roar of laughter went around the quad. And it was probably at that moment those guys did not want to be “cholos” anymore. They never walk past again.

Efrain’s switch seemed to be always on. As we got older. I wondered how he hardly ever had bad days. He never spoke of struggles or negative issues. It seemed his goal was to only uplift the energy to a high level of fun. And that is what it was with him, always fun.

After high school, we hung out here and there. He came across Dodger tickets and invited me to the game. At this time, I had just dyed my long hair, bright red. Efrain pulled up in his truck “Cherry” and we drove off. While stuck in traffic on the 101, Efrain says “Damn, Dee, I never had a hyna match truck” I should have known better, that was not going to be the only comment from him that night.

We walked to field level seats and right when I sat down, Efrain looked back and up at everyone behind us and screamed! “I'M SITTING WITH RONALD MC’DONALD ALRIGHT!? SHOW SOME RESPECT!” Once again, the roar of laughter. An old man seated behind us couldn’t control his laughter. As it went on, it was like lunch time all over again, Effie threw around his one of a kind personality and it was another of those unforgettable times. I have learned a new appreciation for all these now cherished memories and more. Effie 4 ever.

Always, Daniella

Since the news, many memories have rushed back and my heart has broken. I cry and laugh all in the same breath, as I think of him. Every year, I would do my best to remember to wish him a happy birthday. Obviously, this year is different. My deepest condolences and respect to Mr. and Mrs. Hernandez. his sister and brother, in-laws, nieces, nephew and to his extended family and friends as well.

I hope the angels know what they have. Happy Birthday, Effie. I will never forget you. Thank you for all the good times and for the once in a lifetime friendship. ~Daniella

It would be a difficult thing to ever forget Effie. His spirit will definitely live on through those who know and love him. One of the special things about Efrain is his connection with people. There was no stubble approach with Effie. He completely smashed the ice between people. His immaculate charisma and humor would show immediately. My first encounter with Effie was in kindergarten at Montebello Gardens. We were lined up for class, facing across from each other. He stood next to the teacher and insisted on holding her hand. Jumping and smiling the whole while. The teacher was happily acknowledging and smiling back at him. Which made another kid want to hold her hand, but when he reached up and tried to take the teacher's hand. Effie SMACKED him! He started flapping his hands at the kid and shooed him away. From that moment on, I was very cautious of the little boy who reminded me of Alfalfa from little rascals. When freshman year the same boy walked into class and was seated next to me. I was terrified! I knew that he may look skinny and puny, but he had a different kind of strength. Our poor science teacher ended up shedding tears later down the road because of Effie. He wasn't doing anything mean, but he was doing just enough that the class paid more attention to Effie’s antics rather than the lesson. This how is happened all through high school.

Esto no es un adiós sino como dirías tu un, See you later Bro!

Efrain, you were a joy to be around and so welcoming. Since the first day we met you, you made us feel like family. "El Tao tao" will forever remind me of you. Keep dancing in the sky.

Effie is my cousin, my compa, my brother. I always prayed & begged my mom for siblings not realizing at the time that I already had three.❤️ My Tia Ana helped raise and babysat me from the time I was a year old until I was a senior in high school, so we grew up together like siblings. Our family will tell you that Effie & I fought like cats & dogs when we were young. So my Tia Ana would make us write standards as kids, I will not fight with Efrain, I will not fight with Jessica. As we got into middle school & then high school we created a bond. Effie would drive us to school in the burgundy truck, he would warn me that he better not catch me scamming at school, he was also my TA for Spanish class so of course I got an A+ thanks to him & later in life he became my sons Godfather.

Sunday fun days, Vegas trips, family gatherings & our group texts messages will never be the same. My husbands best & loudest laughs were because of Effie. Everyone’s loudest laugh was because of Effie & I’m going to miss that… but I’m so thankful to God for giving me some of the best memories of my life with him.

Effie often expressed how cool he thought I was for rapping the speech at my moms wedding. I don’t need to come up with my own lyrics this time because they are perfectly said. So let’s end this in a Jessica style for my brother Effie with lyrics from P. Diddy…

“It's kinda hard with you not around
Know you in Heaven smilin' down
Watchin' us while we pray for you…
Memories give me the strength I need to proceed, Strength I need to believe…
'Til the day we meet again
In my heart is where I'll keep you!
I’d give anything to hear half your breath
I know you still living your life after death…
Every single day,
every time I pray,
I'll be missing you”

EHJ Forever❤️

My deepest condolences to the family. Efrain was like a son to me he was my Godson and little cousin. I love him so much and I am so proud of his accomplishments. As a young boy I took him everywhere with me and he was such a big part of our family. My kids love him like a brother and my son cherished him. He was my son’s favorite person in this universe. My kids have always looked up to him and have been so proud of him. He leaves a big whole in our hearts💔 He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

My deepest condolences to your family. I knew Efrain well growing up. He had such a great sense of humor one that I will never forget. Unfortunately, we lost touch after high school nonetheless he will always have a special place in my heart.
Warmest Regards,
Sonia Carrillo-Ramirez

I have endless memories with Efrain. I’ve known him since he was born. Our families grew up together. He has been a part of every celebration in my family. Efrain was my family! He was my brother! My kids uncle and always made sure my kids felt loved. He was their Uncle Effie💙Efrain was our Sunshine. He would light up the room with his presence. If you were feeling down he would lift you up. If you were scared about something he would walk you through it and assure you it would be ok. If you felt negatively about something he would turn it into something positive so you could see how there is always a positive outcome to something. I will miss his laugh, our talks, but most definitely just miss seeing him. Familia Hernández ustedes son mi segunda familia. Los quiero mucho y Siempre estaré con ustedes.
