It’s hard to put into words what Cathy meant to our family. She had this way of opening her arms, sometimes literally, sometimes with a plate of food, sometimes with a story you didn’t see coming, and suddenly you felt like you were exactly where you were supposed to be. She made ordinary days feel special, and the special days feel unforgettable.

She loved our twin boys deeply. The way her face lit up when she saw them is something we’ll carry with us forever. And she wasn’t just that way with them, she had a soft spot for all kids. Her grandkids’ soccer games were practically a part of every conversation, and hearing her talk about them always made us smile.

Some of our most treasured memories are on the lake with her. Those easy afternoons in the sun with laughter carrying across the water, Cathy talking, always talking, in that way that made you feel included whether you wanted to be or not. Once she had you, you weren’t escaping, and somehow that became one of the things we loved about her most.

Her kindness showed up in countless small ways too like letting us use her lake house. No questions, no hesitation, because that’s who she was.

Carl has years of memories tucked away from her cabin in Green Valley and her house in Huntington Beach. Memories of feeling safe and welcomed and loved. Cathy gave Michelle her first experience with a big American family Thanksgiving. Loud and packed to the walls with people, food, love, and laughter! 

We will miss her laugh, the energy she brought into every room, and the way she made family feel bigger than just blood. She leaves behind a space that can’t be filled, but also a love that doesn’t fade.

I’ll always remember this particular evening celebrating with Cathy and Tony after we closed on their new home, sharing sushi and Japanese beverages and so many smiles. She was such a pleasant,  joyful soul! I’m thankful for knowing her and the sweet memories.

I will miss Cathy.  She was such a fun loving and generous person.  She always made me feel welcome.  I will never forget our amazing trip to Baja to see the Gray Whales up close and personal.  It was such a great trip.  She drove the van over many potholes in the road! We enjoyed many fun times in Mexico and at Lake Mohave together.  I loved her sense of adventure!  She was so devoted to her family.  She was such a loving sister in law.

My cousin Cathy was always such a lady in my eyes. From my earliest memories she forever embraced her femininity with strength, intelligence, and grace. I vividly remember, when visiting their home in Pico Rivera, Cathy preparing for dates. She had worn her hair in rollers all day long and then came the process of hair do-ing her big bubble do. And when we happen to be there as she prepared for a prom, it was a beehive up do and she looked like a princess. 

She married and had children early, but that didn’t stop her from pursuing a very accomplished career in a vocation that was just opening up, especially for women. She had to have been fundamental in evolving Physical Therapy to the level of its application today.  She was a giving, dedicated lady to all those who knew her, loved her, and needed her.

This is grandma when she went with us to Colombia a couple of summers ago. I remember thinking what a great attitude she always had and how she was always down for whatever. What an amazing person. So filled with joy. She looks so beautiful and happy in this picture. I love you forever grandma -Bella

We miss you, Cathy.  

You are such a special person surrounded by love and light.  Some of my most favorite memories are spending holidays and long weekends at the cabin.  You would take us ice skating or to Santa’s village.  Or we’d bake cookies and work on puzzles in the dining room.  We always felt so loved and special.  I have so many fond memories of both you and Tony.  I’m so grateful my children got to spend so much time with you and experience the same.  You know how to make people feel like they were the center of your world, it was a special gift, I’m so lucky to have  experienced it.  

Best quote from your final evening , “I love to see my favorite banana playing the clarinet.”

Thank you for your warmth and kindness.  The love you gave me and family was really remarkable!  I miss our phone calls  and texts.  Your patience and understanding of different illnesses was so very helpful and inspiring.  I remember love and fun in Huntington Beach, Orange, Green Valley Lake,  Laughlin, Yorba Linda, Maui, Mexico, Fairview, and so much more.  Fight on!  Love and great sadness, Robert Schy
