Born December 10, 1955, in Los Angeles, CA, Anna was the second child and only daughter of Luis and Lillian Aguilera. They lived in the same house in South Central LA all of Anna’s life until she moved to the San Fernadno Valley as a young adult.
She attended St Aloysius Elementary School and St. Matthias High School where she lettered in softball. She was an excellent student earning highest honors 7 of her 8 semesters in high school and was thus awarded a scholarship to attend USC. Having made the Dean’s List several times, she graduated from USC with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1978.
She was hired by the City of Beverly Hills Information Systems Department in June 1980 and rose steadily in position and responsibility eventually becoming responsible for all the hardware and software of all the City’s personal computers. In 1987, she was presented, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, the City Manager’s Award for excellence for her outstanding work. Later she became the Network Administrator as well. She also became the principal technician and implementer of the Police and Fire Departments Computer Aided Dispatch and Records Management Systems. She worked for Beverly Hills for 25 years.
She then worked for Tiburon, a police and fire applications firm, and implemented these systems for several municipalities. Later, she worked for Intergraph, another police and fire applications vendor as a project manager. Subsequently, she was hired by the City of Burbank as the Assistant Director for IT Applications, migrating applications off the mainframe to network-based systems. She retired in 2010 with a substantial government pension.
Anna was a life-long learner constantly taking courses in biology, Greek, Latin, mathematics, piano, photography, skiing as well as Spanish, and particularly, French, up through French 5 in which classes were all in French and reading and writing in French was required. She traveled extensively in Europe, especially France. She was a licensed Amateur (Ham) Radio Operator. She bought and rode a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. One of her favorite passwords was some form of BikerChick.
She was her father’s daughter and became his handyman assistant in her early years. In retirement she refurbished her parent’s home as well as worked on her own home. When he was alone late in life, she cared for him until he passed away. In her later years, her constant companions were her beagles (my babies). She gave generously to many environmental, humanitarian, charity, and health organizations.
Anna often presented a rough exterior which camouflaged her sweet, sensitive heart of gold and her bright and enthusiastic zest for life. She will be missed by all those who knew her.
