Victor Ontiveros Machado, 91, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Monday, June 3, 2024, in Lynwood, California. Born on July 10, 1932, to Aurelio and Carmen (Ontiveros) Machado in Watts, California, Victor's life was filled with love, dedication, and countless cherished memories. On December 22, 1967, he married the love of his life, Hortencia Esparza, in El Paso, Texas, beginning a lifelong partnership full of joy and adventure.
Victor had a passion for camping, fishing, and road trips, finding solace and joy in the great outdoors. His life was rich with experiences and stories, so varied that mere words may not capture the depth of his remarkable journey. As Victor often said, "Nothing beats a failure, but a try," a testament to his resilient spirit and optimistic outlook.
A beloved husband, son, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Victor's presence was filled with humor, wit, and heartfelt laughter. He graduated from Jordan High School in Los Angeles, CA, laying the foundations for a life dedicated to service and community. Victor served his country with honor from April 13, 1950, to April 24, 1952, a period marked by his deep commitment and bravery that filled his family and community with pride.
Victor is now reunited in eternal peace with his parents, two of his children, Victor and Letty and 5 of
his siblings. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he left behind, including his devoted wife, Hortencia Machado; his children, Abel, Gilbert, Connie, Lupe, Albert, his five siblings; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Though we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments.
We Little Knew
We little knew that Evening,
God was going to call your name,
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
You did not go alone
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you,
You are always by our side.
Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
