I am heartbroken to announce the death of our father, Raul P. Muñoz Jr. He passed from an unexpected heart attack on the 16th of November at the age of 76. Our father was born to Raul and Mary Muñoz, on October 19, 1946, in Superior Arizona. The family moved from Arizona to California in 1947, where our father grew up in the city of Downey. He was one of the original students of Saint Dominic Savio Elementary School moving on to graduate from St. Pius X High School in 1964. After graduating high school, Dad joined the United States Army, where he served for 3 years. One year of which in 1967, he served with A-Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry of the 4th Infantry Division in the bloody yet forgotten battle near Polei Doc in the central highlands of Vietnam at the height of the Vietnam War. Our father was the recipient of the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star and Honorably Discharged from the Army in August of 1968. He then went on to marry his childhood sweetheart in September of 1969 and eventually had 3 children. He provided for the family while working in the construction industry as an Iron Worker until he was accepted into the California Highway Patrol Academy in 1978. Dad graduated from the CHP Academy in July of 1978 where he went on to protect and serve the public with honor and distinction for 30 years in the Santa Fe Springs and surrounding areas. Although he left his 3 children behind, he will always be in their hearts and minds for the rest of their lives.
A father like you is rare, you were tough yet so generous, smart and funny. You had an infectious smile and always made us laugh. You were a great provider, and we never went without. Nothing can replace a father like you, but when you get to heaven, God will be lucky to have you too.
Our dad is survived by his three children Raul, Stephen, Delise, 13 grandchildren and his sister Irene Hernandez.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.rosehills.com for the Munoz family.
