She was born in Guangzhou, China, and moved to Hong Kong in her early twenties. In 1977 she immigrated to the United States, where she and her husband established their family home in Southern California. Through years of steady effort and sacrifice, they raised three children and saw each of them through college. Her devotion to her family was the defining work of her life, and the success of her children and grandchildren stands as its measure.
A devoted Buddhist and a dedicated student of feng shui, she brought care and patience to everything she tended. Her garden was among her greatest joys, home to more than fifty fruit trees that she cultivated. She took particular pleasure in sharing the harvest with the friends and neighbors who filled her life, and she maintained those friendships faithfully across many decades.
She was an adventurer at heart, longing to travel whenever she could. She journeyed throughout China with her family and her siblings, and made pilgrimages to Tibet, Bhutan, and Nepal in keeping with her faith. She visited Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand, among others, and traveled across the United States.
She was known for her cooking and for the generosity with which she welcomed anyone into her home. She possessed a warm and playful sense of humor that endeared her to all who knew her. To her grandchildren she was a source of constant affection, remembered fondly for the sweets and egg tarts she never failed to have on hand.
She is survived by her husband, Chiu Yu Ho; her children, Chung Ho, Nancy Lam, and Lucy Noble; her grandchildren, Emma, Kassidy, Lucas, Liam, and Arya; and her siblings in Hong Kong and China.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Rose Hills, Hua Yuan Chapel, Hall of Wisdom at 3890 Workman Mill Road, Whittier, California 90601. Family and friends are warmly welcome to attend.
