The sweetest, most loving mother, Najia Salehi, tragically passed away on May 5, 2025, at the age of 68 in Irvine, California. Born in Kabul, Afghanistan, Najia studied at Kabul University’s School of Economics and worked at the bank as an Assistant Manager. After fleeing Afghanistan, she traveled through India, France, and Germany, living in the south of France with her youngest brother—her kindred soul.
After marrying Khalid Nassery, Najia completed the Hajj and lived in Saudi Arabia, where she studied the Quran. Eventually settling in California, she is survived by her precious daughter, Mariam Nassery. Following in her father's footsteps, Najia embarked on a career in education, becoming a preschool teacher after earning her Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Development. She worked in the Irvine Unified School District for over 20 years, touching the lives of countless children and families with her joyful and caring guidance.
Najia was a free spirit who loved nature, exploring, and travel. She was an avid fan of Ahmad Zahir, finding solace in his voice and lyrics. A devout and spiritual Muslim, the Bibihaji spent her time in worship, a reflection of her deep love for Allah. Najia dedicated her life to making others happy. A bright light to all, she will be immensely missed by her daughter, husband, and family.
To honor her empathy, in lieu of flowers, we request donations to Islamic Relief, specifically for the children of Afghanistan.
A graveside service for Najia will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601.
