Celebrating Mom's 70th Birthday January 18 2016

Hi Mikey, today is one year, we all thought this would get easier but it hasn’t. This year was crazy, we had a global pandemic, human rights riots, a big huge election, and to end the year Grandpa gained his wings. We are all hoping you two are finally together, and that you’re enjoying each other. We miss you so much every day, but we hope that you are watching over all of us and skipping through disneyland with grandpa while it has been closed all year. We love you Mikey.

It has taken me over a month to come to terms with Michael's passing and for me to realize he will no longer be here to share the remainder of my/our life as we had planned before cancer took this wonderful man from me.  A man who was talented, honest, loving, unassuming, kind, genuine, funny (especially when he was not trying to be) and so many more wonderful adjectives there are to describe him.  To all who knew him he tried to keep hope going that he would and could beat this cruel disease up to the end.  With his death some lost a child, a friend, a brother, I lost my partner of almost 10 years which is longer than most marriages these days.  We thought we had forever, thought we had more time, but with the time we had we made the most of it sharing and doing everything together with plans for the future a future that is not as bright since his light no longer shines.   We had a may not have been married, but does a piece of paper really determine ones love and commitment to each other, it doesn’t for me because our final words that were exchanged between us linked us together forever and no official government issued paper makes it any less real. He will be forever in my heart and on my mind.

I will always admire your strength, positive energy, and light hearted nature. You will forever be a path for me to follow, to learn from your personality, to be kind, and open hearted, accepting, non-judgmental, helpful, caring, and strong. When the cancer first started, I really didn’t understand much of it, Mom would try to explain it to me, but I didn’t always get it. These days now sometimes I wish i had the same innocence, but it’s a good thing to learn and grow. 2019 was the wakeup call for me. Throughout this journey, I’m so thankful I got to spend time with you, and be someone that got to take you to the hospital, or just sit next to you while you were laying down, or talk about music, and photography, I’m so glad I have these memories with you, I’m glad I got to be strong with you, and talk about the good things life has to offer. As now is the most prominent memories I have with you, I often reflect on the ones from when I was younger, too. I think of sitting out on the patio with our family eating some delicious meal Grandma and Mom prepared, you asking me about school, my upcoming concerts, or how my photography class was doing. I appreciate these times more now. I remember all the bargains you loved to tell us about, especially when you went to Ross, wow you really loved Ross, haha. I remember when Mom and I lived across from you and we’d get to go to the Hot Tub a couple nights a week. That was so fun, and you’d invite us over to watch a movie or Emergency. I ended up really liking Emergency so thank you for one of my new favorite shows! I have your old Macbook Pro that you gave me maybe a year or so ago. The keys have always smelt like you. I opened it for the first time since you passed to fill out some paperwork for my upcoming enrollment in Cosmetology School. I wish you could have seen the crazy things I’m about to do with some peoples hair, but that’s okay, I know you’re always watching now. I can always feel you around Mikey. I love you

I worked with Michael for 2-years at Epson and sat right next to him.  We would often go out to lunch together and talk about life and given we both grew up relatively in the same neighborhoods, we talked about old stuff like 80's rock groups, etc.  When I left Epson I was in contact with Michael via texting and we had plans to meet up for lunch in the new year.  He mentioned he was feeling ill but he played it off as nothing.  I am so saddened to hear the hews of his passing (I was travelling for the holiday season and didn't hear about his passing until much later).  He often talked about his girlfriend and her son and his parents and his sister and niece and the love and support he had for them was boundless.  I want to express the deepest condolences to them. He was a great guy and one of the kindest souls I ever met in my life.  I actually still have his last text that he sent me and I don't know what to do with it.  Thank you for reading and just something I needed to share with.  Again, to his family I wish to express my deepest sorrows to you for your loss.  Rest in peace Michael, you battled and fought long and hard for many years and you deserve the peace you have now..

I worked with Michael for several years at Epson. He was such a high-spirited man. And while he was always very open and transparent about his illness he never, ever dwelled on it. I always enjoyed our conversations and his light-hearted nature and great laugh. I as well as the rest of the Epson team who worked with him will miss him greatly. 

Mike is in heaven.  I worked with him and he never complained, always had a smile on his face, and was an inspiration to all.

There are not enough words to tell you how much my big brother meant to me. 
We had the greatest childhood together. I always wanted to do what you were doing. You taught me how to ride my bike, how to swim, we made forts and would go riding down the hill on a board with wheels crashing and laughing. You loved our dog spot, Spotty burger!!!
You loved playing with trains and cars and watching Emergency.
When we were teenagers you loved all music but mostly the 80's techo and you played the keyboard. I would get into trouble and you never did.
When I was grounded you took me with you and your friends to the movies, to the park.... who does that? Who would let their little sister hang out with their friends? You did Mike.
I will never forget how kind and patient you were and how you never judged people. You always did the right thing. People respected you. My kids, Craig and Summer looked up to you.
You could light up the room with your strong voice, your confidence and your laughter.
You loved your job at Disneyland as a Graphic artist and all your amazing assignments. From that you went into the park and made friends and eventually volunteered as a conductor on the steam train. You also loved your job at Epson as a Web designer. You enjoyed the people you worked with and all your projects, you were always excited about. You were so creative and paid attention to all the details.
It was so nice to see you happy with Laurie. You guys loved going to gardens and trips and working in the yard together. You went shopping for bargains and eating. Laurie you got Mike to eat his veggies! ha ha. You loved her two boys Shane and Caden.
Thank you for being so good to everyone Mike. Thank you for being my best friend, my rock and my hero.
As much as this hurts I think we all have a little bit of Mike with us. We will keep him with us always.
We will remember your strength, your good moral character and your awesome laugh.

We will always remember Mike as a friendly,  caring man and a special friend of our son-in-law, Garrett.  Although we didn’t get to see him very often, he will always be remembered with love.  RIP Mike and fly high with the angels.

I wish I would have had the pleasure of knowing Mike.  Actually, I only got to meet him once, many years ago.  However, I am a very good friend of his sisters', Kim.  We have known each other for about twenty years.  She spoke of her brother often and always so highly and I know she loved him so very much, just like his parents, other family, and friends.  Therefore, I felt like I knew him as well.   I know Mike had to be a very special person because he was a "Firman," and the Firman family is very special to me.  Please know how very sorry and saddened I am about Mike.  I wish I would have been able to attend his service, but I am there for all of you in spirit.  At this time, I am wishing each of you strength and peace.  You're in my thoughts, my heart, and my prayers.  

Michael was such a bright and friendly soul who was always happy.  Although I haven't seen him for a long time, I was shocked and saddened by this news.  He was part of a very special creative team at Disney.  We were a wonderful family and he was a very bright spot on that team.  My prayers are with his family as I know he will be missed.  But Michael will now be a bright spot in heaven.  He is with God and his memory will always bring a smile to our faces.  God bless you Michael.

My saddness is overwhelming for our loss of Michael. No matter what work or the world dished out, Michael reflected the Word and grace of God to everyone with an extra portion to those that were hurting.  His crown of glory is sure to honer Christ. I know he was met by loving arms and a special place with all the Saints. I know Michael loved his family so much. May your wounded hearts recover knowing he has entered the Kingdom of God in glory.

I considered Michael a really good friend more than just being a fellow Cast Member. I loved when he lit up telling us about his shifts doing Cross Utilization on the steam trains!  It will always be a special memory!  Also remember a fun road trip with him to Vegas with our fellow CM Kathleen and her husband Damon.  Still can’t believe it...thoughts and prayers...and love...to his family...

I can just imagine him swapping train stories with Uncle Walt!
