I met Mrs. Coston in October, 1980 where we both worked for DPSS. She became my immediate supervisor from 1981 until I transferred to another department in 1984.  She was always helpful in training you for your new assignment so you would excel. When I departed, we always kept in touch with each other.   She will always remain in my heart because I thought of her as my second Mom.  GOD has gained an ANGEL.   RIP: ❤️ always Lena

We will truly miss her.  She and my Mom worked together for over 30 years and remained friends long after retiring  fromThe County Hospital.   Mary was such a Joy to be around... Ms. Mary,"Rest in Peace"

Mrs. Coston lived in the neighborhood where we grew up, so my sisters, Gwendolyn and Cherolyn and our brother, Glen would always stop by and check on her when we were in the area.  She had such a sweet and kind spirit.  She was also an "Honorary Jackie Pasley Sunshine Club Member".  She always attended our yearly parties when her schedule allowed.  We are surely going to miss our "Honorary Mom!!!  Thank you, Brenda, for being so generous with sharing her with us!!  She will always be with us in spirit!!

I first met Mrs. Coston almost sixty years ago when I was 19 years old and started working at my first "real job" at Los Angeles County General Hospital.  She had a fun sense of humor and was a joy to work with.  She was caring and loving and brought out the best in others.  I loved listening to her calm melodic voice and always valued her sage advice.  She guided me through my years of marriage, motherhood, children, grandchildren and now great grandchildren.  Although not able to talk with her in person again, she is a beautiful vision kept close to my thoughts and heart.

My last memory of cousin Ruth was me getting on her about not wanting to go to the doctor. She just laughed and said she was going. She was one of the sweetest people I know and she will be truly missed! RIH my sweet angel & give my daddy, Cherie and Jimmy a big hug for me!💖


Mrs. Ruth is my idea of a "phenomenal woman".  Whenever I talked to her, she always greeted me with a hearty laugh. I admired her independence and tenacity and can only imagine what she could have accomplished had she not grown up during the Jim Crow era. Her spirit and energy was definitely not that of a 93 year old woman. When I last spoke to her she expressed how grateful she was of the support and assistance that Brenda was providing. It's been a pleasure knowing the amazing Mrs. Ruth. 

Edward  and I will continue to pray for the family and keep you in our thoughts. Mrs. Constance as we new her was a sweet woman and dear friend to our family. Praying God's strength to you all now and forever.

I became an acquaintance of Mary Ruth Coston thru her friendship with /Beulah D. Johnson.  I can remember the times that Beulah would visit and I would be the designated driver for superb visitations. Mary Ruth was my adopted mother who eagerly dispensed her welcome advice. It was my pleasure to know a wonderful, generous and kind person 

I met Mary Ruth Coston over 20 years ago.  She would always call me and say, "Hello Maajry, this is Mary from Los Angeles". We became friends over the years when I confided in her about a situation I was going through.  She was a great listener and she gave me some great insight that I will never forget.  I remember I couldn't reach her one day.  When she called me back,  I learned that she was taking a computer class.  Mind you, she was 80 years old. She instantly became my hero. I will never forget this beautiful,  strong Queen. Thank you Brenda for driving her out to me, and allowing me to be a part of her life.  

Oh what a Beautiful,  sweet, Lovely woman Ms. Ruth was. I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Ruth at her 90th birthday party.  Memories of her  humor will live on. Brenda we are sisters because of your Mom & my Mom. Family you were truly blessed to have a Queen in your life.

I always called her Mrs. Coston, but when I found out her name was Ruth she became Baby Ruth from then on.  She'll definitely be remembered in a sweet way.
