She was the eighth child born to Ezequiel and Bernarda Chacón. After the loss of her parents at a young age, Maria was lovingly raised by her aunt, Eladia Medina whom she considered her mother. She was blessed with the opportunity to reunite with her siblings as a young child. This turning point in her life cultivated a deep sense of appreciation for family as a gift from God to be treasured and protected.
In 1956 she moved with mama Eladia from El Paso to Los Angeles CA. Throughout her life, Maria was a devoted single mother who raised eight children (Audrey, Valerie, Stephanie, Sofia, Veronica, Michael, John, & Eladia) with unwavering strength and determination. Despite the challenges she faced, Maria led by example. She earned her high school diploma in the spring of 1982 with her six children in tow. She later graduated with honors from East Los Angeles City College earning an AA in Criminal Justice . At the age of 57 She completed the Probation Department’s demanding physical training to become a Detention Service Officer at the Los Angeles County juvenile detention center.
Maria was a humble, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She nurtured Integrity, love, and forgiveness by meditating on God’s word daily. Her playful childlike spirit created cherished memories for her family. She enjoyed making friends and hearing their personal stories as much as she loved sharing her own. Maria found further enjoyment in gardening, old classic movies, singing, dancing, swimming and spending quality time with her family. She experienced comfort and blessings in her pets throughout her childhood as well as her most recent perro, Princeton. Maria was also a passionate writer, inspiring many with her love for writing. It was her sincere desire that writing daily scriptures would inspire family and friends to draw closer to God.
In her final days Maria poured all her love into her family, ensuring each one felt deeply cherished and accepted. Her unwavering faith in Jesus brought her great peace as she stepped into the eternal presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Maria will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters Aida Delgado and Magdalena Chacon, as well as her many friends who were touched by her love and kindness. May she rest in peace, knowing that her legacy of faith, love and perseverance will continue to inspire those who knew her.
