To Mrs. Howard and Family,

Please accept my sincere condolences for the passing of Reverend Luther Howard, Jr. 

I am so grateful that my mother (Mrs. Irene Futrell) led us to New Prospect Baptist Church, Toledo, OH. The sermons from Rev. Howard and the way your family carried themselves were an integral part of our development as children. 

You have all touched and influenced so many lives. Thank you and again my sincere condolences.

I remember when (uncle brother) Luther was preaching at New Prospect church in Toledo, Ohio. He would get so happy and into his sermon he would hop up on the church pews and walk across them like he was walking on the floor but kinda floating. He never fell. Renard and some of the other kids would guard him. But that wasan't necessary, because he never fell. Then he would step down off the pews and continue his sermon.  To this day I have never seen a Pastor do such a miraclous thing.

Aunt Hennie,  my thoughts and prayers are with you always especially now. I wish I could be there with you to offer some kind of comfort however I know God is much better at it. I love you and pray God gives you strength to get through this time of pain and sorrow.

There are times in our lives when we encounter very special people. Two such people for me are Rev Luther Howard and First Lady Hennie Howard, who  I affectionately  address as Handsome Luther and Sweet Hennie. I’m so blessed to have crossed paths with these beautiful human beings. I had the opportunity to sit with Sweet Hennie yesterday  and share a moment and a loving memory about Handsome Luther who made his transition a few days ago. He will forever be remembered and cherished in my heart for his gentle spirit and kindness  Thank you Eltoine for inviting me into such a beautiful family full of love. Sweet Hennie I will forever be here for you and cherish our friendship  Handsome Luther I love you and there’s nothing you can do about it so don’t try,

Attending the retirement party with auntie and uncle I stayed the weekend, enjoyed them so much that I called off work to stay later. So much love was shown by everyone.  ❤ love you guys.  And I'm praying God's love and strength to carry you all through,  these hard times. My son is buried out there , beautiful and peaceful.

He shared the word of God with so many people for years and even in times when they were dealing with loss as we are today.  He would tell us even in grief God is with us. We were blessed to have experienced such a man as Uncle Luther. He was my great Uncle, brother of my grandmother Pearlean  Howard.  My mother, Crystal Howard, always made sure to tell us that we were special because we bare the name Howard. Uncle Luther and Aunt Hennie was always the example of excellence my mother used when telling the Howard history. She made sure we had someone of impeccable standard to look up too. I honor him and Aunt Hennie both. My heart is with my Great Aunt Hennie and all of my cousins down the line. I love you all wholeheartedly. May God bless this family and may his legacy continue through us all.

What a privilege it is to be your grandchild!!! I am so thankful for all the love you have shown me. You have been to every graduation front and center, you’ve been to any major accomplishment of mine cheering me on and always telling me how proud you are. I am so grateful that I got to experience some of my greatest achievements thus far with you by my side. I will miss the many laughs and jokes that we shared but I am thankful that I have plenty memories to cherish forever! Thank you for being YOU - a strong man of God, a true fighter, and an AMAZING grandfather. Grandpa, you were ONE OF A KIND. Thank you God for blessing me with you! I love you tremendously and as my heart hurts knowing you aren’t physically with us I have so much comfort in knowing you are singing, dancing, and enjoying your new home in Heaven.

"The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way."  (Psalm 37:23). You were a good man, and God directed your steps to keep you going on the path he planned for you.  May God give you eternal rest. When I joined New Providence in 1989, I knew I had found the right place. Your loving kindness, inspiration and knowledge was such a joy. You loved God, loved and adored your wife,  and cherished your children and family. I am so blessed to have become accepted as a part of the family. Reverend Howard baptized my husband, James and myself back in the early 80's. He also was the officiant at our wedding in 1988. He truly will be missed. We always thought of him as being a true man of God. We send our love and condolences to the entire Howard family.

My brother, very sorry to hear of the passing of your beloved Father. To have been blessed for 92 years of life and fellowship with his family and friends is truly  remarkable! The other gift that your Dad had is a legacy of having a Son like you my  brother. Pecae unto you and your family. 

Pastor Howard was the officiant at my husband’s funeral. His care and compassion were extraordinary. I later became a member of New Providence Baptist Church in Walnut for three years. 
His preaching and singing were gifts from God. Rest in Heaven, Pastor. Your memory will live on.

For the past 45 years we have been witnesses to the life and legacy of truly a great husband, father and servant of our Lord Jesus Christ,  our friend and neighbor, Reverent Luther Howard.  
The most profound memories we have of Rev. Howard are his perpetual kindness, humility, respectfulness and soft, gentle demeanor.  During times of our own difficult health problems, he always came, with his dear wife Henny, to visit and pray over us at the hospital. 
He is a shining example for all Christians to follow on “knowing the word” and “truly living the word of God”
We have been touched and forever Blessed by the life of Rev. Luther Howard.

My friend, I am so grateful that G-D brought you into my life , I know that you already knew that , but some things just needed to be said , I look back to that year in 1992 when my deceased wife who had been to the church before I did said you are really going to love this church, well I am so blessed that I was not just going to a church but to see a man that loved the LORD and loved his wife and was not ashamed to let the world know , from that moment I was hooked, I could say so much more but this is not a sermon , Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of HIS saints (Ps.116:15),looking forward to see you in GLORY 🗣🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💚

Pastor Howard was a rare role model! He exemplified the word "gentleman." He walked what he talked and taught. I feel so privileged to have known him. The times I've spent with him and his lovely wife are special treasures of mine.  He may have been small in stature, but he was a "giant" of a man! 

When I moved to Southern California, I met wonderful friends that introduced me to Reverend Howard’s Church and Family. I was provided love and stability which I needed in my life at that time. My family offers the Howard family our deepest condolences and prayers. 

Reverend Howard was an incredible spiritual leader for us. His example as a man contributed to the very blueprint that I use to lead my family. My family and I attribute much of our spiritual foundation to Reverend and 1st Lady Howard's leadership. He provided so many fruitful examples. The Godly way that he honored his beautiful wife, 1st Lady Hennie Howard, for over 60 years, was proof that marriage can be successful when doing it God's way. He loved his family beyond measure. And, through our lenses, treated them all as special gifts from God. Reverend Howard treated everyone with love and respect though. Jeremiah 31:3 says, "Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee." This was Reverend Howard. About 31 years ago, he was personally evangelizing outside of a grocery store in West Covina when he met my wife. His love and kindness is what convinced us to join New Providence. We were welcomed with open arms, and through his ministry, have formed friendships that will last a lifetime.  We'll miss you Reverend Howard, but we will see you again. May God send a gentle touch of peace and comfort to the entire family during this sad journey. 

As I look back over time I find myself wondering. . .
Did I remember to thank you enough for all you have done for me?
For all the times you were by my side to help and support me,
to celebrate my successes, to understand my problems,
And accept my defeats? Or for teaching me by your example,
the value of hard work, good judgment, Courage and integrity?
I wonder if I ever thanked you for the sacrifices you made, the way you treated my mom, to let me have the very best and for the simple things
Like laughter, smiles and times we shared? If I have forgotten to show my gratitude enough for all the things you did, I’m thanking you now.
And I’m hoping you knew all along how much you meant to me.
For the past year and half the Lord was preparing me for this day to get closer to you, to tell you how much I love you and you would say I love you too.
You would say to me I don’t know what I would do without you guys and I would say I don’t know what we would do without you.
I can still see your smile.
You are my hero!
