It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Larry Eugene Smith, aged 83, who left us on December 26, 2024. Born on November 13, 1941, Larry was a man of simple pleasures and a heart full of love. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Larry's life was defined by his work ethic, loyalty to family, and his love for the outdoors. A skilled sheet-metal worker for over 30 years, Larry took great pride in his craft and dedicated much of his life to his work. His expertise and dedication were evident to all who worked with him, and his contributions were appreciated by the many people whose lives he touched during his career.
In addition to his work, Larry proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. He was drafted in 1966 and served from 1966 to 1968, including time in Vietnam. Larry received an honorable discharge in 1968.
Larry lived a life filled with joy, laughter, and adventure. He cherished the time spent outdoors, whether it was fishing camping, playing horseshoes, or enjoying good company around a campfire. He had a special bond with his twin brother, Garry, and together they could be found singing harmonies under the stars, creating memories that will never be forgotten.
One of Larry's greatest loves was his 1956 Ford pickup truck that he was always tinkering with and keeping in working order. His passion for the road was matched only by his love for animals, particularly big dogs, who were always welcome in his home.
The center of his world was his family. He shared a lifelong love with his wife, Irene, the love of his life for over 61 years of marriage. Their bond was unbreakable, and they spent countless happy years together side-by-side. He was a devoted father, to his daughter, Debbie, and son-in-law Wayne Christman,. His two grandchildren, Jenna and Zachary,brought him immeasurable, happiness, joy, and love.
Larry's warmth, generosity, and sense of humor will be remembered by all who knew him. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome and loved, whether around a campfire or simply spending time with friends. His legacy of kindness, laughter, and the love he shared with his family will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to be part of his life.
His spirit will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and he will be forever remembered for the joy he brought to all of those around him.
