Growing up, Julian worked in his father’s bakery and at 19 he left Guyana for Canada. He started working as a junior accounting clerk in Toronto while taking night classes to get a certificate in accounting and continued to advance his career. He then decided to move to New York.

One of his proudest moments was receiving the YMCA of New York’s Black Achiever in Business Award. During his time in New York, he met Betsy Taylor, who was to become his wife of more than 50 years.
Julian received a Bachelor of Arts from Fordham University and then moved to California to pursue a law degree. In California, Julian went on to work as the Director of Accounting for Legal Aid where he spent more than 33 years.
Julian spent his remaining years traveling the world. He continued to pursue his love of photography and video. He travelled extensively to Europe, as well as Africa and the Caribbean.
