Hard to understand why Jimmy was taken so young, and suddenly. Still think of Jimmy often, and how much more he had to contribute to all of us. This one year reminder is a real reminder to not wait to embrace family and friends. None of us are guaranteed tomorrow, but we can make the most of today. God bless you Jimmy and family.

Jimmy I’m going to miss you my friend.  I will always remember how you welcomed me into the Victorville public defender family - you were the first to do so.   You were such a good attorney- I think mainly because you were so compassionate. I’m grateful I was able to call you a good friend.  I will miss all the little funny things you did like writing on your hand ( to take notes) , racing around in your cars, and wearing those beautiful suits that were tailored so well.  We will always love and miss you.

On the serious side you always had insight on the people involved in a case.  I so delighted in listening to your analysis and watching the wheels turn.

I was going to send flowers, but then thought a donation in your name to the innocence project would be more appropriate.

I remember being 5 years old and thinking Jim was the coolest as I watched him drive off in his brand new red 80s Volkswagen Rabbit. The black belt in karate a few years later only upped his coolness factor. Years later, he patiently consoled me and shared his experience as I freaked out about taking the bar exam. I am so grateful to have been in regular contact with Jim in recent years, to have gotten to know Kate and Sophia, to have graduated from a bratty little cousin to someone he would text "Hey cuz..." followed by a video of Sophia. Rest in peace, cuz.  And don't you worry - Kate, Sophia, and your mom will be well taken care of. I promise to check in with all of them, and I promise to be a good (and fun! ) Auntie to Sophia. 

Dear Jimmy,
Thank you for everything you've ever shared with me.  You were a mentor, a friend, a colleague, and a dear dear Brother.  I owe you so much for where I've reached in my career.  You taught me so much about our profession- and you taught me so much about life as well.  I will not let your memory fade away.  You will always be the energetic, funny, buzzing around Jimmy Liu.  I promise to check in on your family and make sure your daughter is growing up knowing that people love her and love you.  I know wherever you are, you're racing around in Porsches and Mustangs, burning rubber all over the streets.  You were always larger than life in my eyes Jimmy.  Love you forever, peace to you forever.

Jim and I met while working at the District Attorneys Office in Orange County in 2000 only to find out he was classmates with my cousin Vicmar Coliflores when they attended Cypress high school together. Since then we remained great friends and stayed in touch and shared many memories.  Rest in Heaven Jim.

My greatest memory of you is when you decided to train and most deservingly earn your Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. Take care and continue to shine so we can see you in Heaven. I worked with Jimmy in the San Bernardino Public Defenders Office. He was a great and compassionate lawyer and a good friend. He had a sideways way of looking at things which often made me laugh. I can't believe he's gone. Godspeed,  Jimmy. May flights of angels sing you to your rest. 

I will greatly miss my good friend Jimmy! We 
used to talk about so many things all the time. We used to laugh and joke around. Plan for the zombie apocalypse. We talked a lot about his excitement when he married Kate. His joy and worries when Sophia was born.  I am  still in shock and can picture & hear him laughing. I still pick up the phone to call him,.. I get very sad. I will honor his memory and our friendship by always being there for his family.
