Pt. 1 The last time we got to spend time with Irma, was at Paty’s celebrating her 50th birthday. Intimately, having a candle-lit, Guatemalan meal outside by the pool. Irma was always so caring and warm. Everyone was family.   I’ve only been around for 2 and a half years or so now, but her smile is something, I think, we can all see clearly when we think of her. And she was equally excited to see and greet whoever came into her loved ones’ space. She was so kind and proud when Julio, my boyfriend and nephew of Paty and David, graduated from college and we’re grateful for her thoughtfulness and Julio treasures the beautiful, customized blanket she got him as a gift for that huge milestone in his life. But, my most recent and maybe my favorite memory, while celebrating Paty’s [intimate, candle-lit] birthday, I was reaching across the table and got something on my sleeve. Irma, right across from me, wanting to help, handed me some napkins and one dropped on the candle and caught on fire. We’re all screaming trying to put it out everyone only had cups of alcohol on the table and in attempt to put it out poured some out and realized mid-pour that alcohol wouldn’t be good for the flame. The burning napkin is now on Patty and David’s table, despite a pool being behind us all too. Frantically, still all of us shouting, picking up and dropping the flaming piece of paper, finally Irma is able to put the napkin in her drink. The first thing she says instead of something along the lines of relief, she screams, “Ahhh! Mi ponche!!” Forget the fire. She was focused on her drink! By the way, she had made a huge pot of that Guatemalan punch and it was still in the kitchen. She could have easily gotten more haha. 

Pt. 2  We all laughed and laughed the rest of the evening. The whole series of events were so poorly executed. Thanks to that night, it’s clear how prepared we are in the case of a fire. We think about that moment and, still, laugh out loud. The ponche, Irma’s genuine heart, her love for her family. Grateful, for the imprint she has had on so many and to be apart of her legacy of beautiful people she’s left for all of us to continue to treasure.🤍 

I will always remember her beautiful smile, contagious laugh and her spunky personality. Will be dearly missed. 💗

Dear Family.  My heartfelt condolences  on Irma’s passing. Rest In Peace .  I met Irma through a close friend of mine. It was a pleasure to have crossed paths with her.  Always fun and laughter while around her, usually at the El Sereno Senior Center events. Once,  even a New Year’s celebration at my home with friends. She will remain in my thoughts and prayers .I am saddened by her passing.  May you find joy in knowing her friendship meant joy and laughter when sharing time with her.  🙏
