Gilbert Zendejas went with the Lord on 9/27/2024. Gil was born to Anthony and Dolores (Vicuna) Zendejas in 1945. He was raised in a small but loving home in Whittier, California where he lived until graduating from Whittier High School in 1963.
Shortly after graduating, he felt the urging to defend his nation and enlisted in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of Specialist 4. He served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne logging more than 50 jumps serving at Fort Benning, Georgia, Fort Bragg, North Carolina and Fort Ord, California, and in the Dominican Republic.
In 1966, he married his high school sweetheart, Victoria Cruz, (aka. Georgia Burgueno), daughter of Ernest and Lupe Burgueno of La Puente, California.
Together, they had six children, Gilbert, Ernest, Yvette, Sean, Denise and Nadine, whom they raised during their 53 years in El Monte, California.
During his more than 40 years of work with Southern California Edison, he served as a journeyman, lineman, foreman and area supervisor. Although committed to his work, he always had a love for the Lord and the Bible and served in multiple ministries across So. California. He served as Senior Pastor of Victory Chapel, El Monte; Assistant Pastor at Lifeway Truth Center in La Puente, and as an associate minister for Victory Life in Baldwin Park. He was a Spiritual mentor to many.
He was preceded in passing by his parents, Anthony and Dolores Zendejas; his brothers Anthony and Robert; and his daughter, Yvette.
He is survived by his wife, Victoria "Georgia"; brothers Danny & Michael; sisters Vera and Dolores; children Gilbert, Ernest, Sean, Denise and Nadine; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
