Edward Paul passed away on Tuesday morning, June 14, 2011 at his home in Burbank, California. His wife, Cecilia was at his side. Edward was born to Sidney and Victoria Cole Paul in Los Angeles on January 8, 1932. The family, which by then had grown with the births of Sydnetta, Yvonne, and Jo Ann, moved to Sidney's hometown of Dayton, Texas in November of 1938. Five of Edward's siblings were born in Texas, including Eleanor, David, Starlene, Lawrence, and Diane.
Edward went to Colbert School in Dayton until he got his parents' permission to return to Los Angeles to finish high school. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1951. In 1952 Edward joined the Army, serving in the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, Edward began a 41-year career with the City of Los Angeles. His last assignment with the city was as a sign poster. He knew every freeway and major boulevard in the L.A. basin. Therefore, he was the go-to person for alternate routes around streets and freeways with typically bad traffic.
In 1957 Edfward married his first wife Jean Walker, the young lady who lived next door to his beloved Aunt Ezzie. Edward and Jean's son, Brent, was born on May 22, 1958. Their son, David was born on August 11, 1966. Edward loved and was very proud of his sons and their accomplishments. He was just as proud of his two grandsons, Jason and Jordan, the sons of Brent and Sandy Paul.
Edward learned the value of family at a very early age. Being the oldest in the family, he was encouraged by his mother, Victoria, to love and take care of his little sisters. He also loved his cousins and close friends as much as he loved his immediate family. We was the family's life coach and comedian, offering encouraging advice and many hilarious stories. Friends like A.C., Ray, Gilbert and many others will remember their favorite stories about Edward.
In 2002 Edward married Cecilia Estupa, the lady who became his best friend, his "opponent" in fierce games of Solitaire and Word Search, and his gentle, constant supporter through the many months of his illness. Our family is grateful to Cecilia for being there for Edward.
Edward loved fast cars, like his turquoise and white '57 Chevy. He loved motorcycles, especially Harleys. He loved parties where there was plenty of food. He loved California. But, Edward didn't love any of these things more than we, his family and friends, loved and continue to love him now and forever. We'll miss our Big Brother.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Victoria Paul; his brothers, David and Lawrence; his sisters, Starlene and Yvonne; and his son, David.
Edward is survived by his wife, Cecilia Paul; his son, Brent Paul (Sandy); his grandsons, Jason and Jordan Paul'; his sisters, Sydnetta Ross of Los Angeles; Jo Ann Paul of Dayton, Texas; Eleanor Paul of Sugar Land, Texas; and Diane Paul Louviere (Wilfred) of Sugar Land, Texas. He is survived by his niece, Georgetta Solomon of Los Angeles; and nephews, Kenneth Ross (denitra) of Los Angeles; Sidney Ugoriji of Denver; and Stephen Scott of Honolulu. He is also survived by great nieces, great nephews, cousins and many friends.
Edward will be remembered on Saturday June 18, 2011 during a memorial at the Rose Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary, Hillside Chapel (located at Gate 17), 3888 Workman Mill Road, Whittier, CA. The chapel will open at 10:30 a.m. The memorial is from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00p.m.
