I remember fondly the times when I was a young kid waking up to go to breakfast with my Uncle Deni. He was calm, stoic, and considered his words carefully before he spoke; a contrast to the chaotic way the rest of my family would converse. I always admired that aspect of my uncle, his ability to filter through the noise and say in 2 sentences what took me paragraphs to convey. This measured approach was not reserved to just his speaking however, as Uncle Deni was resolute in all that he did. A talented woodworker he would spend hours in his workshop crafting with a determined patience that shined through in his work. Every groove, every joint was sculpted intentionally and that's how he lived his life... with intention as he would tell me a box is not a box if it doesn't have dovetails.  I've had the great fortune of being able to get to know my Uncle Deni well these past 8 years in ways that I never had before. In that short time I quickly realized what a rich and full life he had lived.  Growing up in a small farm in Iowa he would recount fondly memories from his childhood enthralling us with precious moments of a simpler life long since gone. He told stories of how he would fetch water from a well miles from his home only to find his mother using his hard earned spoils for a bath. He remembered gardening with his father and chuckled warmly reminiscing how his father was perplexed when the tomatoes only grew on one spot of the garden only to find out that Uncle Deni got tired and decided to pour the rest of the seed in that very spot. Or how his father grew mad wondering why a fencepost grew thinner and thinner as the season wore on, never revealing that it was due to Uncle Deni taking a chunk off to smell throughout the day. He carried that wit and laughter with him well into his twilight years and what a wonderful gift it was to share with us... 

We'll miss you dearly Dennis Roy Keiderling. A Stoic Sailor, Skilled Woodworker, and most of all a Beloved Uncle
