It is a year since we lost Dean and I miss our calls. I have fond memories of the trip to Jupiter Florida when Dean was working on a tv show with Bert Reynolds and Loni Anderson. When they were done filming for the holiday we drove down to Key West and had a wonderful time together. He was such a good friend.

My family and I met Dean in 1970 at Hope Lutheran Church. We became very good friends and had many great, fun experiences together. When he lived in Toluca Lake we met several times a week for dinner and then long walks through the neigborhood. When Dean went on location I stayed with his Mom Mildred as he didn't want her to be alone for those long periods. I was fortunate to visit him when he was working with Bert Reynolds in Florida and we had a wonderful trip together down to Key West. Dean was a kind, generous man and loved to take my daughter Leigh shopping. They had such fun together. I last spoke to Dean the first part of March but had no idea that he was doing so poorly, and no one let me know that he had passed.  I will miss him very much.

Dean and I were childhood friends during 4th grade at the
Big Bear Elementary School in Big Bear Lake, California back
around 1943-44.  Many years later I tracked him down in
Palm Springs, CA and visited him there.  Prior to his retirement,
he had become a motion picture set designer.  I am truly sorry
to learn that he has passed away.

I sure miss his presence in our life,  and ours in his. I just wish I had insisted on cutting his hair that last weekend. It's strange to have no phone calls from him, or running errands for him,  grocery shopping. What Dennis couldn't do I tried to do. He was a great friend to Dennis and of late, to me. He is missed.

Dean was a huge supporter of my art, often jokingly (well kinda) exclaiming he’d “discovered” me.  He did in a way, he saw one the articles written about me and looked me up, forming a wonderful friendship if not patron.   The first he commissioned from me, somehow walked away during one of his parties in the early nought’s of 2000, and I surprisingly replaced it (with a different one) at one of his coffee clutches.  He perpetually had a chilled Cosmo in his freezer that he’d offer you when you came over, if there was just a little bit - you’d simply add to it.  Well here’s to him: Dean Mitzner - may you forever know you were loved, and made many impacts on peoples (not only my own) lives, may your spirit forever be in the cosmos.
