Charles “Chuck” Wesley Rogers was born on August 18, 1940, in St. Louis, Missouri to Helen Phillips Rogers and James Wesley Rogers. He was the youngest of six children.
Chuck attended and graduated High School in St. Louis. He moved to Los Angeles, California in his early twenties after serving in the Air Force. He later received his Bachelor's and Master of Arts degrees in Psychology from Pepperdine University.
Chuck was a man of many accomplishments and talents. He was also endowed with an array of skills that he regularly utilized, including being in a singing Group for many years in St. Louis. Chuck was a man who truly believed in pursuing and achieving your dreams. Operating under that belief, Chuck had many outstanding careers beginning after he completed a 4-year tour with the United States Air Force after which he was granted an Honorable Discharge. After the Air Force, Chuck joined the Los Angeles Police Department “LAPD” for seven years; he subsequently joined the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department for six and a half years working at the LA County Superior Courthouse; he then became a Court Reporter for the LA County Superior Courthouse (His Highlight was reporting with Johnny Cochran); later started his own very successful Security Company, Excel Security Services which he owned from 1980 – 2000 where he was loved and praised by many; ultimately he retired as an Investigator for the County after holding the position from 2000 through 2005.
Outside of an outstanding career, Chuck was a smart investor. He owned several properties throughout his incredible life and encouraged the youth in his community to invest in real estate. If you know Chuck then you know he took great pride and pleasure in being a mentor, he loved to talk to others about how to achieve your dreams and become the best version of yourself.
For fun, Chuck started a social club in Los Angeles called, “The Chessman Club”, with a group of friends whose motto was “Pleasure is our commodity.” He loved listening to music of all genres, shopping (Amazon stock will go down 😊), and spending time with family and friends. I mean… what a man, what a man…what a mighty good man!
Chuck was the type of man who stayed fit and active you could never guess his age. The key to Chuck aging like fine wine was keeping his mind sharp, fashion on point, body active and the love of his life, Renee, happy. When it came to keeping active Chuck chose Tennis, it was his passion! His son tried to convince him to play golf but Chuck always said golf was for old folks but Tennis was a game where you had to be young to keep up with him.
In 1965, Chuck was joined in holy matrimony to his first wife Burnestine Rogers, and to this union, he was blessed with a handsome son, Charles Wesley Rogers II “Lil Chuck”, whom he loved dearly. Through his son, he was blessed with a daughter-in-law and two grandsons.
In 2002, Chuck was joined in holy matrimony to the love of his life, his current wife Renee R. Rogers, and this union came with a daughter Tonika L. Ford; through her union, she blessed him with four granddaughters.
Chuck lived his life to the fullest and the prayers and loving care of family and friends sustained him throughout his 6-year battle with Prostate Cancer and Amyloidosis. He lived with a strong faith in God and assurance of his salvation.
He lived a life dedicated to his family and community service. Chuck loved life and had a tenacious will to live, as well as unwavering faith in God. His love and charity for friends and family was something that was truly a pleasure to behold and even greater to experience.
He leaves to cherish his memory of one living sister Helen Catlin residing in Alexandria Virginia. Siblings that have preceded him in death; sisters: Grace Morgan, Myrtle Steward, and Mildred Buck. His Brother James “Doc” Harrison Rogers also preceded him in death.
