Brad Robert Kinder was born on January 1, 1985 at Long Beach Community Hospital in Long Beach, California. He lived in North Long Beach for five years until his family moved to Hacienda Heights, California in 1990.
Brad attended Los Molinos Elementary for kindergarten, Los Altos Elementary for grades 1-6, Newton Middle School, and Los Altos High School. In his younger years he tried baseball, soccer, and several seasons of basketball, although his chronic asthma made playing sports difficult. He started playing trumpet in elementary school, and joined marching band in high school.
Brad and his family spent many happy times at Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm. The family loved camping at Balch Park in the giant sequoias, where the trees were accessible to touch. It’s a magical place where the small lakes reflect the giant trees and bright stars. Brad loved computer games and anime. He had fun times in cub scouts and Boy Scouts.
Brad’s beloved grandmother, Evelyn “Lyn” Kinder, died in May 2002. This death affected the entire family, but hit Brad especially hard. The family took a cruise to the Bahamas in 2003 to rest and recover. Brad loved the sea-doo jet ski best, but also tried parasailing, and interacted with dolphins. He enjoyed the ship’s mini golf, and attended an ice skating show. One shore trip was to an ancient temple in Mexico.
Brad’s high test scores made getting into Cal Poly Pomona quite easy. Unfortunately, Brad developed paranoid schizophrenia around this time and the auditory and visual hallucinations made studying impossible. Over the years, his life became lonely and sad as his mind deteriorated from this disease and from drug abuse. His friends moved on with their lives. Brad was left with the voices in his head, unable to study or work. Brad’s mother tried to keep him safe, fed, and medicated. Finally the years of abuse led to heart failure on August 18, 2023.
Brad is survived by his parents, Gerald (Jerry) Robert Kinder, Judy Lynn Boss Kinder, and his sister, Kelly Lynn Kinder, as well as numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Brad’s cremains are buried at Rose Hills, Whittier, California near his fraternal grandparents’ graves (Evelyn Ferol Short Kinder and Eugene Gerald Kinder). His grave is in the Mountain View Lawn portion, lot 3463 grave 2.
