Our dad was one of a kind, family was everything to him! He was an amazing husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He told us every day that he loved us more, not just on certain days. He’d always give us a few bucks when we needed a little extra in our pockets and always hugged us tight when we needed it the most. He has always supported and loved all of his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. He’s left us with so many beautiful memories, each special to every one of us. Alex Medina was born in Los Angeles, Ca on April 1st 1951. He was the son to Juan and Lucy Medina, and brother to his only sister Jeanette Medina. Alex was a furniture finisher for many years, always working hard for his family. He most recently was a security guard for S&L Security Company and on the side catering & cooking, his biggest passion, the thing he did best!! In 1966 he met the Love of his life Marie Mejia at North Park Jr. High school. He would bake her and her family cakes and walk all the way to her house to deliver them. Not only did he fall in love with her but he fell in love with the whole Mejia family. The bond was strong from the beginning! On July 5th 1969 Alex and Marie were married. A love story like no other. On December 27th 1969, Lisa Marie Medina was born but passed away. An Angel meant for Heaven. On February 1st 1972, Melissa Marie Medina was born. She is the Pea to his Pod, daddy’s little girl, his everything! Seven years later September 23rd 1978, his little baseball player arrived. Johnny Alexander Medina, his little jokester and very best friend, like father like son! Alex’s 1st grandson Javier Medina was born on September 24th 2003. Javy’s favorite thing about his grandpa were his hash browns! His grandpa loved taking him to his favorite store to buy him a trinket. After years of waiting and praying for his daughter Melissa and son Regino, Lil Regino (Reggie) Alexander Marquez III arrived on May 7th 2017. This was a very special moment in his life. Reggie loved his grandpa’s pancakes and loved to act silly with grandpa. To see him with his grandsons was the best! He was so involved in their lives and wanted nothing but the best for them. He was the very best at being a grandpa and loved these two boys so much. Alex, also known as “Big Al” or “Pops” to many was the life of the party! If he wasn’t standing behind the grill, you could usually catch him on the dance floor with a Bud light in hand. He never missed a beat, the famous bus trips, a weekend camping on the river, road trips with his wife to Laughlin, playing caveman keno for hours, the many concerts, the sporting events or any family gathering. He was a happy man who loved his family more than anything. He was a genuine soul who treated you like his own from the day he met you. Our dad was so brave until the very end. All he wanted was peace for us all. We were blessed enough to sit right by his side until his last breath. We read him all of your beautiful text messages and facebook messages. That was the only time he shed a tear, he had so much love for everyone. He left our beautiful mom his strength and courage to get through this. Their love is ever lasting!! We would like to thank you all from the bottom of our broken hearts for all of the love & support you have shown our family in these past weeks. You will be greatly missed “Pops” but heaven sure is lucky to have you. I love you dad ….. I love you more
