

Wan Soo Kim was born on March 29, 1932 in Seoul, Korea. Eldest of ten children, he graduated from Kyung Gi High School in 1951. After serving in the Korean military he attended University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, where he earned a B.S. and an M.S. in Fishery Sciences in 1960 and 1963, respectively. Proficient in Japanese, Mr. Kim graduated from Tokyo University in 1966 with a Doctorate degree in Agricultural Studies. Subsequent to his studies, Mr. Kim taught at Seoul National University from 1968 to 1980, where he founded and headed the Department of Oceanography.
In the wake of political instability in Korea in the late 1970s, Mr. Kim resigned as an educator and immigrated to the U.S. with his family in 1981. In the U.S., Mr. Kim embarked on various entrepreneurial endeavors in retail business. He eventually engaged in the business of wholesaling and exporting his own brand of vitamin products.
Mr. Kim is survived by his wife, three children, and seven grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Kim has celebrated 46th wedding anniversary this year.
