I just found this out. My sincerest condolences to his family. I've known Rick since 1988. I considered him as one of my dearest friends. My wife and I were considering him as a godfather to our daughter. I am heartbroken and will miss him. Love to him and his family.

I have many fond memories that go back to the 1960’s when Dickie and my brother, Hugo, started hanging out. One of my vivid memories was attending their Marine Corps Boot Camp graduation in San Diego. Dickie’s sister, Dolores, 16 years old, had just gotten her license. She drove us, our Moms and siblings to San Diego and back to LA. Dickie and Hugo looked so handsome in their marine uniforms.

Dickie had many loves, sailing, sports cars, watching and playing sports, working out, a good conversation and debate. He loved listening to Fresh Air on NPR, especially Terry Gross. Some of his favorite CNN shows were Fareed Zakaria and Rachel Maddow. He loved watching movies, documentaries, historical, action, and musicals. Surprisingly, his favorite Rom Com was “Love Actually!”

Dickie loved food and enjoyed going out to eat with his friends. Dickie, my brother, Rudy and I would often go out to eat and had interesting conversations on current events, political issues, history, war, religion, the Chicano Movement, and even shared our own personal stories, such as my brother, Rudy, talked about his experience as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam; getting shot down, dropping off and picking up soldiers.

Dickie was an all around sports player. He loved skiing, hiking, basketball, biking, scuba diving and as a teenager was a lifeguard at the East LA, Belvedere Plunge. He loved listening to his music while driving, working, cleaning house, working-out, He loved listening to books on tape, watching sports, especially football, March Madness, and tennis.

Dickie was special to our family. We’ll appreciate and remember his being a part of our family; Supporting Rudy when he had cancer and Ray’s community projects, Offering my sister and I, as teens, a ride in his sports car, Hugo will always value their friendship of 60 years and I’ll always cherish our fun and special memories.

We loved and will miss his spirit, joy for life, passion for learning, wittiness, and smile.

Dickie was my Roommate for over 10 years. We enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing and the friendships with Bob Sedaka, Richard Morales and Hugo Torres. I will truly miss my friend and will cherish the many memories.
Rest in Peace Dickie.

Dickie and I became friends when we were 18 years old. At 19 years of age we joined the US Marines through the buddy system. I’ll miss him and our friendship of 60 years.

I met Dickie one night while I was cruisibg with my girlfriends, 45 years ago. My friend Irene really liked him, so she left her number on a piece of paper, on his windshield, while she was leaving it, she got caught in the act. Then we ended up leaving all 8 of our phone numbers. Five years later I get a call from Dickie to meet up at the Orange Julius with his friends. Another three years later we all went to a nightclub in the Montebelo Bowling ally. Then we were friends from that point on. The pictures I have shared are from a trip we made to Lake Tahoe, his brother Jimmy also joined us, we saw Roy Clark.

Lake Tahoe, with brother Jimmy and friends.

Dikie is with his girlfriend at Liz's wedding.

We were having lunch with Big Bob at Black Angus.
