Eleanor June Miller

A viewing will be held at Rose Hills Visitation Center (Gate 1), 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601, on August 17, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

The funeral service will be at Rose Hills Hillside Chapel (Gate 17), 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601, on August 18, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Burial following the service at Rose Hills Memorial Park Sequoia Lawn, Row 14, Lot 13709, Space 4, Gate 1. Reception to follow, details TBD.

Eleanor is survived by her daughters Joyce Becktel (Doug) and Susan Cujak (Dennis) and her nine grandchildren: Jaclyn Ruybalid Krueger (Jon), Kyle Deven, Courtney Engquist (Paul), Erin Barrett (David), Danielle Cujak (Jeff), Amber Velikova (Peter), Jeffrey Ruybalid (Kirsten), Kimberly Jeffries (Jacob), Scott Ruybalid (Aly), her 14 great-grandchildren and several special nieces.

She was born in Jasper County, Missouri to William and Catherine Wilson and was the youngest and shortest of five children. She grew up on a farm and when she was 19 years old, she moved west to Whittier, CA because she didn’t want to marry a farmer! She eventually met her future husband Curtis Miller and was married February 13, 1954. He proceeded her in death in October 2003. She continued to live independently in her beloved home of 75 years until her passing, in part due to the help of her generous neighbors, in the town she loved very much.

Throughout her working career, Eleanor held a variety of jobs, most notably the Whittier Daily News, and Quaker City Federal Savings from which she retired in the early 90s. She had a true servant’s heart and was always a caregiver to those in need. She often volunteered to bring treats or bake birthday cakes to her work functions, clubs, and church meetings. She was a member of the Whittier First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and volunteered for many different roles. After retirement she joined the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) Chapter LX, serving in many capacities over the years. She enjoyed selecting, sending and receiving cards and everyone looked forward to hearing from her. She also loved traveling with friends and family, and as part of the Traveling Ramblers of Whittier Club.

Most of all, she loved being a Mom, Grandma, “Gma” and Great Grandma. Her family was so important to her and she loved talking on the phone and receiving phone calls from people checking in, especially in her later years. She was famous for her birthday calls and beloved by all she met, collecting friends across generations.
