Thomas Lungsen Chow

Born as Zhou Long-sen in the Year of the Snake in the Xiaolongkan District in the Chongqing Province, Long-sen is the youngest son and 3rd of 4 children to Zhou Xiao Dang, a former Chinese Senator and business owner, and Lin Wei Na, a concert pianist and music teacher.

Long-sen had a very nomadic childhood, growing up in China, Indonesia, and multiple stints in Hong Kong, before immigrating to the United States in 1965.

A 1st generation Chinese-American, Long-sen came to America on a student visa before becoming naturalized. A devout Catholic, he chose the Anglo name “Thomas” after the apostle and was known to friends and family as “Tom.” He attended Portland College and Florida Atlantic University. Tom married Verna Huang in 1967, and they had two children, Patricia and Thomas Cary. They lived in Florida and Southern California, before divorcing in 1999.

Tom loved watching all sports, but especially his Miami Dolphins, which helped him assimilate into American culture. His true passion was tennis, which he played with friends into his 80s. Tom also loved movies and still occasionally watched VHS tapes in his apartment. His third passion was travel, as he took great pride in the countries he was able to visit.

Tom was predeceased by his brother, Larry Chow; and is survived by his children, Patricia and Thomas Cary; two grandchildren, Everett Thomas Chow and Eian Shonny Chow; and sisters Margaret Lee and Maisy Wang.

Tom died a man fulfilled and at peace. He told his son before dying, “I had the best life. Best of everything. I’m not that greedy. I’m satisfied. It’s time to go.”

MEMORIAL DETAILS

A celebration of life will be held at the Rose Hills Mortuary – Visitation Center, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, CA 90601, on October 1, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
