I have 43 years of special memories with Steve.  Our bond was unwavering, we kept it alive throughout the years and we knew it was forever. Our last conversation was days before he passed. He told me he wanted to complete a project he had started with Rudy. He sounded so positive & determined.

One of my fondest memories was when he invited me to go with him & his family to Carnegie Hall, What an amazing time for him,   

Steve was one of kind!  He was Funny, intelligent, caring, sensitive & loyal,, a man with strong beliefs

I remember my friend taking me to go see them play for my 21st birthday at a night club in El Monte. Then for my 50th birthday my family hired them to play for my birthday I was so excited. I remember taking Rudy to meet my mom he was so kind to her.  Steve was very funny that night my family and I really enjoyed listening to them and dance the night away. May they both R.I.P with the angels

I would like to extend my utmost sympathy, prayers, love and hugs to the Salas/ Brambilia Family and to Mary, today and always at this joyous celebration of life for Steve and Rudy! Unfortunately, I live out of state and cannot attend. 1980 Dorthy Chandler Pavilion I got to see Tierra perform for the first time. I followed them stood at curbs watching them go by on a float for the East LA Christmas Parade. Tierra was family and the begining of a legacy putting themselves on the map. Although Memories are forever Tierra will live on. These brothers will be missed. My heartfelt condolences to the family.

I started following Tierra when they played at the Pasta House,after hearing them my family and I always followed them and loved their music.

The Salas Brothers left an indelible mark on the history of Chicano music with Tierra.
Tierra  Music or Group Will Not be the  SAME

I am heartbroken and so sad that  Steve, my friend, passed away! There are no words to express how sad I am!

Steve was too young to leave us, he had so much to give although God has other plans. 

Rudy and Steve are in heaven together singing with the angels, rejoicing in all their accomplishments...they finally have peace and rest.   

When I first heard their hit song "Together" I was overwhelmed and overjoyed that a Chicano, Latin band had made it "big"! I was so proud! (East LA where my dad was born... incredible, wow)! 

Years later when I started my company, Valentina Artists & Music Promotions, promoting & booking bands, I booked and promoted TIERRA & Steve.  Rudy and Steve were amazing musicians and friends and our friendship for life began!  

One of the special day’s for me was July 22, 2001, when I hired The Jaguars to perform at my Concert at The Civic Auditorium in San Jose, CA.  They told me Rudy & Steve had not spoken for 10 years and “how did I get them to perform that day”?  I believe it was a spiritual intervention and God granted us a miracle!  From that day forth it was a door opener for their new relationship!  I hold this day special in my heart and it is rewarding and an honor to be part of their reconciliation! 

My heart goes out to family, loved ones & fans!  My heartfelt condolences! 

We have lost a giant in the music industry and I have lost a friend!

Steve may your Legacy Live on forever!! We love you and will miss you tremendously! May you Rest in Peace!🙏🏼🕊💔

You touched the lives of your fans, everyday people,
your fellow musicians, everyone you came in contact with.

I had the pleasure meeting Steve back in 2000 when he would perform Wednesday nights at the Sportsman in Lincoln Heights.
Steve was such a talented, kind and friendly man. The last time I talked to Steve was September of 2021.  He shared with me a few of his health concerns but gave me the impression he was getting better.   I called him again in December twice to wish him a happy holiday and it wasn't like him to not return my calls. I thought he just might be busy rehearsing and enjoying the holiday season.  I wish I would have known that the conversation I had with him in September would have been the last time I would speak to him. I would have told Steve what a good friend he has been to me throughout these years and how much I valued his friendship. I still can't believe he is gone.  He will be very much missed  and Steve will always hold a very special place in my heart ❤️.

My family is saddened by the loss of our childhood neighbor and lifetime friend.  The Tierra music has played a little longer in our home since Steve’s passing as it brings back such “precious memories” of a lifelong friendship.  Remembering so many times and adventures “together” but most especially the night at Garfano’s when we laughed so hard with Rudy M.  until  we cried.  The years since Keith Street have been many but the bond has remained unbreakable. So glad we had the chance to have one last laugh and hug at the ELAC event.  You remain always my neighbor, my brother, my roommate and my friend.  Until we laugh again, Steve…. in my thoughts and heart you will remain.

I remember meeting Stevie at the international club in the city of pico Rivera back in the late 70s. He was so fun to be around. I ran into him again 30 years later. We sat for hours talking & laughing sharing stories of our life.  He shared the history of Tierra with me. So many great memories I have of  uncle Steve. The ones that will always stick out to me, are the ones at the Lincoln Heights house. I loved Holidays there. It was always so loud and happy. With lots of food and drinks. And by the end of the night, all the guitars would come out and the singing began.  So many talented musicians and singers in one room. I am so grateful to have been a part of the Salas family.  Forever in my heart.

I’ll never forget the night we met. 💕  In 1980.  A mutual friend introduced us.  All I knew was that he was the lead singer in a band.  I wasn’t familiar with Tierra, YET!  I DID  hear “Together” on the radio, and LOVED it...but didn’t know it was him singing it!!!!...LOL...what a great, cool and wonderful SURPRISE!!! when I found out ..LOL...we all laughed!..he thought my friend told me and she thought Steve told me...I still laugh about it.  I have special and wonderful memories with Steve...And Tierra at the Pasta House...my heart is broken 💔...my condolences to the Salas family...He will be sooooo missed, and Rudy too.  He was wearing this same jacket the night we met! I will always remember the Salas brothers!  They were our neighbors in Lincoln Heights.  As kids maybe 13 years old, we use to play baseball in the empty parking lot in back of Lincoln High, sometimes climbing the fence and sitting high above the ground.  We also played little league together on the Gremlins Team, Stevie was a southpaw 
pitcher and I think his number was #15.  My mom always referred to the Salas brother as "muchachos decentes". Stevie was very affable to everyone and well liked by everyone. I still remember passing by their house with the boys practicing in their garage to the delight of their dad, Rudy senior.  I also remember he had two twin carnalitos that were cute as all get go.  Nothing but great memories!!!

I have always love to hear Tierra ¹play but, I would love to watch Steve perform because he looked like he always had a good time.
I was lucky to get a picture with Steve back in 2009 at RT 66 in S.B. (didn't know how I was going to do it but, I used my friend (sorry) that knew him and he was happy we knew the same person).
I got my picture with him and I was happy 😊. 

On my birthday this pass December, 2021,  my, our friend Aida ask him if he would sing 
Las Mañanitas to me over the phone for my birthday and he did 🥰
It was a great event for me that day.
He was sick and he still did it, he was awesome!!

I remember tilling Steve I was one of there groupys. He said your not a groupy your family. I never forgot that because he always made me feel more like family .(I was around a lot because of my cousin Steve f. Bass player) Steve s. was always very friendly always smiling just a good guy. My sincere condolences to the Salas/Brambila family.  I was introduced to Steve and Rudy by my brother Danny Santillan (former Tierra drummer).  I will always cherish the special memories I have of Steve, Rudy and Tierra performing for us at my 50th Birthday, my parents 50th Anniversary Wedding,  both my dad and mom's 75th Birthday parties and several other Santillan family events.

My strongest memories of Steve was of watching the Salas Brothers perform at our LHS talent contest. More memories are - Steve was a very good student, athletic, and all-around great guy. He was involved in Student Government, school newspaper, sports, and several school clubs. He will be missed so much by everyone that ever knew him.

It’s so hard to believe that my cousins are gone. We grew up together 
We laughed, sang and cried together all our lives. They weren’t considered cousins to me , they were beloved brothers

When I  heard the sad news of Steve  Salas passing  I was in disbelief.  He was my hero in high  school  (Lincoln High ) our class president  unbelievable singer with so much talent  memories  of  the past came to mind my friends  and I going to the Teen Club or Gee Gee Hall on North Broadway  anywhere they  were preforming i would try to be there, then when I heard Terra was there band I was excited went out and bought as many C.D.'S I could find.
