Stanley Bernard Stone was born December 1, 1956, the son of Eddie Bernard Stone (deceased) and Georgia Stafford Stone. He was a healthy and thriving young boy, full of laughter and joy to his parents.
Stanley graduated from Crenshaw High School in 1974 where he was a touted tennis player. He briefly went to Pepperdine University. He worked for Newberry’s as a sales clerk. He exceeded in retail sales as a clerk at Thrifty drug store. He was rapidly promoted to lead clerk and assistant manager. He held on to that position for a dozen years, often driving around in his yellow Mercury sports sedan.
Stanley Stone was pleasant and charming man with a good heart. He was known to go the extra mile for his friends, especially if they were in distress. He worked as a handy man and painter. He always equipped himself with the latest gadgets, such air cylinders, gages, stud finders, and hand cleaners. He was always prepared for work.
For a number of years, he was the driver for blues man “Big Joe” Turner and other celebrities, driving them all over the southwest United States. Additionally, he was a t-shirt vendor at concerts and sporting events as far away as Houston and Kansas City.
Stanley kept his tennis skills in top form. He won many titles in men’s tennis in the parks of south-central Los Angeles, especially Harvard Park and Van Ness Park. In fact, Stanley won the men’s doubles title with his cousin, Jerroll in 2012 at Harvard Park! Stanley kept the trophy.
Stanley suffered pain for the last few years. He died suddenly early morning, December 30, 2022.
