RUBIN HARRY BARASCH
BARASCH, Rubin Harry “Ruby” April 28, 1925 – March 31, 2013, Beloved husband to Lillian, loving father to Sheldon (Terry Logan) Barasch, Marsha (the late David) Evans, Cindy (Larry) Shilkoff, Billy Barasch and Daniel Barasch, adored “Papa” to Elliot and Michael Evans, Jordan and Melissa Shilkoff, Delilah Barasch and Alyssa Barasch passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Valinda, CA. Born in Chicago, IL to Rose and Abraham Barasch, Rubin was the 3rd of 5 sons and graduated from Harrison Technical High School where he was Captain of the Basketball Team. Rubin was very proud to have served our country in WWII. After moving to Los Angeles in 1959, he worked in the jewelry business for over 40 years and became the manager of two stores. Rubin’s creative talents included a life-long gift for storytelling and the ability to make people laugh. He wrote and directed numerous comedic musicals to fundraise for his temple where he also served as Men’s Club President. With Lillian’s loving encouragement, he penned many books including autobiographies about his childhood and life in the military. Rubin enjoyed his Los Angeles Lakers and playing card games with his children, grandchildren and friends; he (and the Lakers) usually won. Later in life he became an accomplished bridge player as well. His family and friends will remember him most for his love of music and laughter. Rubin, the family patriarch, had a loving spirit and zest for life that he shared with everyone who had the pleasure to know him and he will be sorely missed.
