My husband & I first met Rich when he and our son Dominique were roommates in Vandenburg. They became very good friends and have served in Afghanistan together. Although we didn't get to see him often, he stopped by our home in Charlotte, NC to see Dominique while home on leave. We spent Christmas in Lakeland, FL, not far from McDill in December 2024. On December 27, 2024, Rich drove to see our son Dominique. We all went to a nearby park with our grand children. There, Rich & Dom, spent the entire time catching up. As we said our goodbyes, Rich said he would stop by our home in Charlotte when passing through. Rich was considered part of our family. He was a brother to our son and a son to us. Rich was a very considerate and respectful young man. We are so thankful & blessed to have crossed paths with Rich. Our deepest heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers to Rich' mother, brothers & families.

I first met Richie when he was 9 or. 10 years old. Dave and I were serving in the Coast Guard and stopped by to visit Dave’s family. Ritchie had a bright smile and teeming with life. We played wiffle ball in the backyard and he hit everything I threw at him.  We also ate In n Out Burgers. Years went by and I saw Richie again as a young man for Dave’s wedding. He still had that contagious grin. He remembered me from when he was a little boy.  We talked about protein shakes and working out. He was well on his way to a successful career in military service. I will always remember Richie. I know that one day that we will see him again. Gone too soon. My condolences to the entire Padilla family. My heart aches. I hope God  is with Richie. I hope God helps us understand one day.  Until then , Richie is forever a part of all of us.  May God bless and comfort the Padilla family.

Richard was one of the best people I’ve ever met. He was always there for others, put his all into everything and was proud of who he was. Some of the best times I had at Vandenberg were with Richard. He was always positive about everything and never let anything stand in his way. After I got out of the Air Force we kept in touch and he gave me advice on some personal and career related things that really helped me out. He’s someone I looked up to and I will miss him greatly.
