

Priscilla J. Narvaez Shurney (“aka Nene”) was a remarkable wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and a compassionate soul who touched the lives of everyone she encountered. Known for her warm and inviting personality, she had a gift for making friends, even with strangers. She built strong, lasting relationships with her neighbors and was a beacon of kindness in her community.
Priscilla, the youngest of nine siblings, was a beloved wife to her husband, Darrell Shurney. She was a devoted mother to her daughter Lauren, proud grandmother to her grandchildren, Malaea and Makoa. She is lovingly remembered by a host of family and friends whose lives she touched deeply.
A dedicated professional, Priscilla, worked as a registered nurse at Kaiser Permanente Hospital, where she diligently cared for her patients. Later in her career, she became a Field Hospice Nurse, a role that highlighted her deep empathy and unwavering faith. Her exceptional work in the community even earned her recognition on PBS, where she was featured for her contributions to hospice care. Priscilla’s generosity extended beyond her profession - she often shared her faith, prayed for patients and their families, provided comfort to those in need.
Born on May 30, 1951, Priscilla graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Philippine Women’s University in 1973. In 1974, she immigrated to America with her siblings, embracing new opportunities and challenges. Two years later, on August 7, 1976, she married Darrell Shurney, beginning a beautiful partnership rooted in faith and love.
After retiring, Priscilla devoted herself to her family, lovingly caring for her daughter, Lauren, and her cherished grandchildren, Malaea and Makoa. Her passions included gardening, homemaking, and participating actively in her church ministries. She also played a pivotal role in outreach and church planting efforts in Palawan, Philippines - a testament to her unwavering commitment to service and faith.
Priscilla’s generous heart, radiant smile, and ability to bring peace earned her the affectionate comparison to Mother Teresa. She had a special gift for prayer, interceding for every concern shared with her. Her life was a beautiful example of the acronym “J.O.Y”

A visitation for Priscilla will be held Friday, January 31, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Rose Hills Mortuary, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601. A funeral service will occur Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Living Rock Church Pasadena, 2181 East Washington Boulevard, Pasadena 911041825.
Priscilla will be laid to rest in Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601; Primrose Lawn; Gate: 1, Section: 10, Lot: 2149, Grave: 3.
