Nelson’s life began in Taishan, China as the oldest sibling to three brothers and two sisters. He believed in being hard-working, responsible, and practical, but he was also a warm, loving, and caring man who was friendly to everyone he met.
As a youth, he attended high school in Hong Kong where he met the love of his life and future wife. He immigrated to the United States in 1969 to attend college in Washington DC, where he studied engineering and earned both a bachelor’s and master's degree at George Washington University.
He and his wife married in 1973 and together they had a son and a daughter. They moved to California in 1981, where Nelson helped his mother, all siblings, and extended family immigrate to the United States where they would all establish their own lives and families in Southern California. Eventually, Nelson settled down with his wife and children in Irvine.
In 1997, he earned his Masters in Business Administration at the University of California, Irvine. He started his own specialized electronics company from the ground up and sold it before his retirement.
His hobbies included badminton, photography, travel, and wine, but his favorite pastime was doting on his three young grandsons.
He is survived by his wife, son, daughter, three grandsons, five siblings, and mother.
Nelson’s final resting place will be Rose Hills’ Garden of Truth in Whittier and a service will be held to celebrate his life at Memorial Chapel on September 30, 2023 beginning at 11:00 a.m.
