Juana S Solis

Juana Sequeira Solis was born on June 5, 1926 near Jinotega, Nicaragua, the eldest of five children. She immigrated to the United States in 1945 and lived in New Orleans, Louisiana for five years before moving to Los Angeles, California. She met her future husband, Raul S. Solis, while attending an English language class. They married in 1953 and soon moved to the City of La Puente, California. She was married to Raul for 58 years until his death in 2012. Juana was a devout Roman Catholic, avid gardener, excellent cook (especially known for her arroz con pollo), and always enjoyed celebrating birthdays and holidays with family and friends. She was employed at Mattel Inc. for 20 years and was an active union member with United Rubber Workers. Later in life, she was able to meet several U.S. dignitaries, such as the late Senator Ted Kennedy, former President Barack Obama, and President Joe Biden, while her daughter, Hilda L. Solis served in the U.S. Congress and as Secretary of Labor.

Juana had a fighting spirit, served as a role model for her children, always stressed the importance of education, and giving back to those in need. She touched so many lives in her special way. She is survived by six of her seven children: Irma, Raul Jr., Hilda, Victor, Anna, Leticia, and their surviving spouses, her ten grandchildren, and twenty-three great-grandchildren. Her fifth child, Dr. Beatriz Solis, passed away in March 2020. Juana will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to get to know her. Dios los bendiga, Juana. You will always be loved and surely never forgotten.
