Jose Valencia was born in Masbate, Philippines on December 24, 1915. He was the third eldest of eleven brothers and sisters. As a youthful young man, Jose served as a Philippine scout under the United States Armed Forces from 1935-1938 with an honorable discharge. He then joined the guerrilla against Japan. After the fight against Japan, Jose proceeded to teach elementary, became a post master, and later retired in his last position as an auditor in the early seventies. In 1984, Jose and his wife, Felicidad, came to the United States of America to visit their son and pursue the American dream. They achieved their goal on September 24, 1992 as they swore in as citizens of the United States making it a more hopeful future for their family.
Jose Valencia had nine children with his wife Felicidad Dela Rosa Valencia, eight of whom are still living. He is survived by thirty four grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jose Valencia will always be remembered for being a lighthearted kind friend, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He touched our lives in a way that could have never been achieved otherwise. He taught us God’s way through his actions, his humble demeanor, and most definitely his love and passion for his family.
